how u do that!

red3183 In reply to emotrainer4444 [2009-02-20 01:41:00 +0000 UTC]

With lots of blood, sweat, and tears... j/k. But there was a little blood from cutting myself working on it.

I sculpted everything out of clay, made silicone molds, cast the parts in resin, put it together, and painted it.

Wow, that is so damn impressive. I'm envious. Looks liek you put so much work into this, and it really apyed off. Who knows, Nintendo of America might come across it and offer you a contract of something =3 This is way better than the crap they ususally produce.

Keep it up! I can't wait to see yoru Ridley figure.

Many Thanks!

Yeah, it would be awesome to get a license from Nintendo to make all their figures. That is the Dream!

No problem. You really deserve it and much more!

Who knows though, it might not be a good thing to be noticed by them. Nintendo might be like Disney in the aspect that once you sign something under them, that's it you're their property till you die. XD But I do hope you manage to create a business with yoru figures!

It blows my mind that you made a figure from scratch, but not just a figure, a movable one at that! How'd you manage to do the joints and such? A small metal rod or soemthing?

I'd love to give a try at it now, your stuff is pretty inspiring XD

red3183 In reply to ElyssaWecera [2008-11-18 02:42:47 +0000 UTC]

... till I die?

You can go here and see a brief description on how I made the joints. It's post #46.

[link]

Those were for the ball-socket joints (neck, shoulders, torso, hips, and ankles). The rest were just resin pins/rods through holes (elbows, wrist, knees, and toes). Then I filled in the holes and painted over them... that way you don't see any joints at all.

Ah cool. Very sneaky XD

Sneaky?

I just don't like it when I see a well sculpted figure... only to see the pins on the joints. It ruins the flow, I think anyway.

No, I totally understand. Usually if i get a figure with super noticable joint pins, I paitn them over ^^

I have but one slight criticism, based solely on relentless, irritating perfection: The visor is a bit light. I understand that's to show off her eyes underneath... but personally, if I were to ever request one from you, I'd prefer something maybe darker, maybe a bit more reflective... but again, that's just my nerd-instincts kicking in. What you have here is a beautiful piece that rivals most mass-produced action figures I've seen. Come to think of it, wasn't there supposed to be a mass-produced Samus figure?

red3183 In reply to DexAntares [2008-11-17 08:32:35 +0000 UTC]

I would like it darker also, but a Sprite bottle was the only clear green plastic I could find at the moment.

Yeah, back in 2004 or 2006 Nintendo announced that there was going to be a Samus action figure produced. I guess those palns fell through.

DexAntares In reply to red3183 [2008-11-17 08:35:00 +0000 UTC]

Huh... that's from a Sprite bottle? Those are pretty dark... maybe something like Mountain Dew or Canada Dry could work, too.

Yeah, it's a shame, but truth be told, it looked like a pretty lackluster figure...

Oh! That reminds me! A: How tall is this custom, and B: Would you consider taking a custom order for a nicely detailed, well articulated figure? I have one in mind I'd been meaning to attempt myself...

You know... all those drinks have the same bottles. They only look different from one another cause the liquid contents are different colors. Trust me, I've tried them all.

Back in 99' I think... they had Joyride Studios make a Samus figure as a Nintendo Power thing. Not sure if you had to pay for it or not... but it had something to do with Nintendo Power. Maybe when you signed up or something. Anyway... that figure sucked. Looked like a Happy Meal toy. You can find them on ebay every now and then for about $200...... yup, $200.00 Go figure.

This Samus is 12" tall. About the custom figure... send me a note.

what if you used a mountain dew aluminum can? that would be green and reflective

red3183 In reply to cursedbyfire [2008-12-17 05:47:51 +0000 UTC]

I found a way to make the plastic reflective. Car window tint, from WalMart

Wow, this is unbelievably perfect. Everything about it, so well made. You are very talented! I wish I had enough money to buy one of these. Have you thought about selling the prototype to a figure making company? I dunno how much they'd pay you for it, but I'd hope it'd be a lot, cos it's just awesome. It looks like you can pose her in any of her sweet poses, just from looking at this photo, the pose is elegant and looks just like an official artwork. Keep up the great work, you have a gift for the intricate

red3183 In reply to bratchny [2008-03-06 20:59:19 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your kind words. I wouldn't mind selling the prototype to a toy company... but what would be even better is if I were able to get a license and do it myself. My main goal is to open my own company and make action figures. Some day....

bratchny In reply to red3183 [2008-03-06 21:29:12 +0000 UTC]

Well that's a great goal to have, I really hope you reach it.
(Then maybe they can be mass produced and sold for a more affordable price) I would definitely buy one of your figures, if I could afford it But I like collecting action figures and various statues, I envy people who can sculpt such detailed figures.
They're your works of art, and so rare, so I'm happy that you've gotten all this recognition, just checked out some of your reviews. All the very best in getting to achieve your dream!
Oh, and thanks so much for adding my painting of Samus to your favourites, I'm really happy you like it

I am. I've already sold 4 of them. I'm going to sell on more (last one). I'm still working on it so maybe in about a week I'll have her up on ebay.
