Looks like you're in space.

I seriously need to stop leaving my camera in the locker when I fly.

This is amazing. I absolutely love this shot. So you just underexposed the picture or something? And that's what makes it seem like it's all black?

Sweet.

no actually. but if there are areas within your frame that you're shooting and there is an area that is a one f stop difference in lighting, it'll either be blown out or be dark/black like you see in the photo. there is a only one stop difference between the blue you see and the black.

in this shot it happened naturally, but it is something you can plan for and also purposefully make with lights.
hope this is helpful.

Excelent shot. As an (as yet) inexperienced photographer, I am really curious about the lighting phenominon you are describing, and how to reproduce it, if you are interested in sharing.

The composition is nice, it really gets the message across. It is a masterfully done illusion. How did you not get all sorts of window spots and such? You didnt' take this with the door open did you? :-p

the lighting effect is just a one f-stop difference in the shade of the sky. that's all.

thank you for your comments.

airplane. not space.

light dropoff of one stop creates the blackness.

holy shit! how the hell did you get a picture at that altitude...regular planes dont go that high! thats borderline innerorbit.... amazing...

red5 In reply to ravinlunatik69 [2005-07-03 05:20:58 +0000 UTC]

It's not the altitude that does the trick on this. It's the one stop difference that you see in the sky. The dark blues just drop off the map with the difference in stops for the light in the sky.

what the h%$#?! you actually took it? looks too good to be true.. what's the altitude, 20km? certainly looks higher but i sincerely doubt commercial flights would go above that..

such perfect tones of blue, crispy clouds, dark space.. love it!
