*Goggles* The incredible detail on this is mindblowing. How long does it take to do a sculpture like that? Thanks for the links for your in progress too, it's about time I learned how you build your masterpieces ^_^

Hehe, well, I'm not taking commissions right now, though I'm sure you probably could afford it. This one cost $13 plus shipping, for instance.

Thank you very much, and thanks for the link as well! I didn't read the whole thing, but so far I've found quite a few useful little tidbits! *stores in away for more reading*
Actually, the wing colors are supposed to be a gradient. However, I found that I stink at making smooth gradients. I worked at the red-orange barrier for several hours and just couldn't get what I thought was right, eventually gave up and made a very narrow gradient (which the camera completely destroyed, though you're not missing much). That's something I've just not done much of and need to practice.
The wing is thick for the sole purpose of support. Using wire mesh was suggested to me before, but I haven't yet been able to find any fine enough to work. The craft stores around here are severely lacking (even though we have tons of them). I never thought of using chicken wire, but I know I can get it and may try that. As it is, there is wire up the wing arm and out the leading wing finger - the rest is solid clay.
Thanks for the tips and comment, though! Every little bit helps!

Rainbows, stripes and spots! This is so visually appealing, I'm awed. And it's not just the pretty colors and patterns that make it so fun to study; there's all the curves and bends and textures too. I really like this, she looks so playful and friendly.
