Description for an art trade with I get a lovely and unique spoon blossom! it will be such fun to have around as a photo prop and conversation piece. being eclectic is fun!

he asked for something for a friend . . . in turquoise (have fun finding any lace worth using in that shade . . took me days to get this dyed right and kept comparing it with real pieces of turquoise!) and gothic. 2 challenges right off the bat! ah well, I live for that.

another request was that it "enhance cleavage". which I think it does! and while I am not enormously endowed, I think it looks fabulous on.

venetian lace in turquoise with smaller black venetian lace insets, cameo and lots of Delica black seed beads and faceted teardrops.

Oh man that color is wild! I can see how it would have been a pain to get right lol And oo.. is that one of the pendants I sent you? If so- go me cuz that cameo looks awesome!

And by the way- I never think of a necklace as 'cleavage enhancing' just 'strategically placed' lol lol again (and my blue rose choker would definitely be both lol)

isn't it? lol. had one of my friends call it nearly psychedelic! lol. and you spotted correctly! it is one. had to find a use for it, didn't I? it just really went well with the lace. ^_^

I never really did either, it was just a phrase he used when trying to explain to me what he was wanting from me. I found it amusing and suitable! (and you know . . you are right!)

I don't often get asked to do anything on this scale, though I do have beautiful laces on hand just in case. ones like this seem a bit more grandiose, don't you think?

and I am always up for a trade! have anything in particular in mind?

haha yea i dont think i would want something that magnificent but it is lovely!

hmmm I love the bat choker you did. all of your lace necklaces are beautiful! =]

lol . . very true; not many people actually want to own something like this! not enough events nor excuses to wear it.

why thanks! I try my best, and sometimes get very lucky. I've always held on to the belief that so long as my client/trade partner is happy with what I have created then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks! popularity just isn't my thing. I am rather fond of my bat pieces too . . don't get to do many of them, and the little furries have a very special place in my heart.

sooo . . I suppose if you really want to engage in an art trade, note me what you are really interested in!

it was a challenge for me! I don't normally think turquoise when I think gothic . .. gem tones, sure, but somehow turquoise always seemed to bright and cheery! lol. still, I was thrilled to finally step back and congratulate myself . . was so afraid it wouldn't be so very visually striking.

thanks hun!

Its strange how requests can cause
a person's style to evolve. Don't
you love those changes that cause
you to have to completely rethink
your normal approach to things

I actually finally got to see a pic of it on her! and I must post the link above so others can see it . . . she really does have amazing cleavage . . he wasn't exaggerating. and it looks amazing on her! I definitely did good this time.

you know . . that is true. I may never do turquoise again as gothic, but then I might. I do have more dye! and it definitely made me evolve my thinking process . . which is a good thing.

That is a beautiful shade of turquoise, and the black lace and beads add a wonderful contrast to the piece. Both the turquoise lace and the drapes of beads seem to work together well to lead the eye and accentuate cleavage.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

redLillith In reply to vhartley [2008-12-02 20:47:03 +0000 UTC]

that shade was such a pain to achieve! took me hours of fiddling with the color mix . . . once it got to here, I just quit. it matched a chunk of real turquoise I own, so I figured that even if everyone else thought it was teal, at least I knew it wasn't! lol.

had to add the black lace, to break up all that turquoise! plus, I couldn't for the life of me find turqouise seed beads that matched the lace . . so I decided if I included a bit more contrast on the base, the more gothic it would appear. the drapes were a given! they had to be there . . . sort of a moral imperative. lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vhartley In reply to redLillith [2008-12-02 20:58:41 +0000 UTC]

I think you did an excellent job getting a turquoise shade versus a teal one. The color is rich, but it's not as deep as most teals are (at least in my opinion).

Yeah, the black lace was definitely a good call to help balance out the brightness of the turquoise lace. Though the color can be great in large quantities, I think large amounts look better in a shirt than something like this. The black helps to tone it down to create more of a gothic feel versus something that's just really bright.

And yeah, the drapes are part of what make your work so uniquely you.

redLillith In reply to vhartley [2008-12-02 21:13:45 +0000 UTC]

thanks! that remark makes all that frustrating work dying the stuff worthwhile .. seriously! I was quite sure that most people would say I was color blind and snicker about the teal. >_<

it really bothered me, seeing all that turquoise on my workdesk just screaming at me. lol. had to break it up somehow, and had all these little bits of black lace just laying around . . started playing with placement, and voila! it no longer seemed so obnoxious. and we all know, bright is just not goth!

aww! I am a drape addict, I admit it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vhartley In reply to redLillith [2008-12-02 21:42:03 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome. I'm glad I could help make the work worth it.

Yeah, bright is not something I would usually associate with goth in any sort of quantity unless it's a bright red.

It's okay to be addicted to drapes, you do them so well.

I actually have a subscription to Gothic Beauty Magazine, so I get inundated with the goth fashion scene on purpose . . and only in vinyl have I seen this shade used at all! guess it just goes to show you. (what, I am not sure!)

awww! thanks! sometimes I think I over-use them, but just can't help it. ^_^
