Kat:
The girls rode together, gathering alongside the crowd that was assembling along the beachfront. Kat was thankful for the weatherproof merchandise jackets that the girls had already procured. The beanie and scarf made the perfect touches for keeping the seasonal chills at bay, as the cold oceanic air gusted through the group. Her mitten hands made sure she had a secure grip on the reins, as she looked over to Occa and said, “Looks like the group is heading out.” She nods to the leaders making their way down the beach, where seafoam spread across the shore as the white capped waves rolled in. “Guess this means we get to follow?” She nudged Silvyr forward, as others before and behind them began to move in the same general direction.

Occa:
Occa could squeal with excitement, but she held it in. Maybe it was the third cup of coffee she had this morning but the world felt buzzed with energy. Occa still couldn’t believe everything had worked out for the trials and she was with her best friend to boot. She couldn’t be happier. “Yes, let's!” She urged Kim to follow Silvyr and Kat. Occa eyed the other riders on the beach feeling her natural competition rising. “Hey, Kat, who do you think would win a race on the beach? I know we don’t really know anyone else here but I bet Silvyr and Kim could beat more than half of these horses down to the beach.” She wasn’t really sure how far the beach ride went per say, but Occa was still confident of her horse’s endurance. “What do you think? Should we start an unexpected race? Do you think if we just took off other’s would get the hint?”

Kat:
Oh no, what was Occa saying now?!? A race, with riders and horses they did not know… who were not expecting fellow horses to go charging nearby on the sand. Kat could think of a million reasons that was not the best idea Occa ever had. And as much as she adored her spit-fire of a best friend’s crazy impulses, she figured maybe she should shut this idea down before things got out of hand. “Occa, you realize that we have Inspections this afternoon,” Kat began. “And we’re already going to have to do a substantial re-groom on these guys, to clear the sand from their coats, before the presentation. Are you sure you wanna go galloping down the beach with clumps of debris flying everywhere, getting the horses even dirtier than they will be?” She turned back to face her friend and continued, “I don’t want us to miss the Competitors Buffet Lunch because we suddenly have to completely re-bathe and re-groom the horses from head-to-toe.”

Occa:
Occa laughed, throwing her head back and arms out wide. “I mean we could always convince Thienna to wash them while we were eating. Doesn’t this brisk air feel invigorating? Doesn't it make you want to run along the beach with the wind?” Truthfully she would never be so demeaning to her cousin. In fact Ochacca was grateful that Thienna had made the trip to help assist both her and Kat. But Occa would never dump work like that on her cousin. She knew Kat was right. Kat was being the voice of reason, like always, to her rather impulsive self.

Kat:
She laughed, “Oh Occa… I think we’ll let Thienna join us for lunch instead.” But even Silvyr was feeling a bit of Occa’s enthusiasm, as another gust of wind blew inland, his tail dancing on the air currents. He gave an eager little snort, and Kat reached down to pat him reassuringly. “Besides, letting these two,” as she pointed towards Silvry and Kim, “show off all their energy and pizazz in the show is going to be so worth it.” She smiled back at Occa, knowing reason would win out, even if a beach race did sound immensely exciting. “Besides, who’s to say we can’t come back and do just that after the class?”

Occa:
“Oooh, I suppose you’re right.” Occa couldn’t help but smile at Silvyrs energy though. Even Kim seemed ready for some excitement as she occasionally danced under Occa. “If we didn’t have the inspection later I think we’d have to let these two stretch out their legs. They’re feeling my energy today! And I suppose since Thienna has already been so helpful we can let her eat with us.” Occa said the last part in jest knowing if her cousin could hear her she’d just roll her eyes.

Kat:
At least Occa was open to reason, even when she was feeling inspired to have them ‘do a bit more.’
“I’m sure Thienna is going to appreciate that,” Kat said with a smile. “Besides, I’m sorta having fun looking at all these other gorgeous competitors.” She had noted a beautiful palomino warmblood walking nearby, with a perfectly matched brunette rider. And just up ahead was the most stunning blue roan stallion. She recognized the rider as a renowned dressage competitor, and turned back to half-whisper, half-mouth, “Occa, is that who I think it is?”

Occa:
“I think that’s Kaira van Leeuwen.” Occa had recently competed at the 2023 RDHS competition and could recognize the well distinguished rider. Kaira had run a fun and well organized competition and Occa had been grateful to compete there. Especially against her brother. “I don’t know who she's riding though.” The blue roan was stunning even from a distance. “Maybe we could go say hi.” With a small nudge to Kim, Occa urged her grey mare forward… maybe the girls could casually catch up to the famous rider.
