After working diligently on my studies/re-certifications for the last 2 weeks, I decided I had to take a break and do a little relaxing art... and why not get a ref done of one of my new beauties.  I feel in love with these horses as soon as I saw Nightsrunners/Brls's art come across my inbox.  And now AVS has brought home one of their own... a new handsome dressage competition horse - and I couldn't be happier.

Such a gorgeous boy! Please tell me when his slots open! I want to breed my first Traaker soon and I feel like He's gonna make a pretty baby ;0;

Thanks so much. <3
I'm not planning on opening any of his slots.  He is going to be permanently bonded with my Traaker mare, Luna - and I've updated his breeding status accordingly.  I want them to become active before breeding together, and unfortunately right now I don't have time to draw out all my plans for them.
Hopefully this will happen down the road, just not any time in the immediate future.
But I wish you the very best of luck getting your first Traaker - and thank you for inquiring.

Aww, now lookie at this boy! He's gorgeous!

I really like seeing your lighter horses for some reason. Aside from the obvious beautiful mane (which looks really cool with the levelled off tail), I really like the face; the low set eye and rounded nostril/muzzle give a softer, slightly pony like appearance and I really like the contradiction (since he stands really tall ) Plus, the raised foreleg is fun, and very nicely drawn

He looks like he could be a touch over-muscled in the quarters, but I don't know the breed, so that could be a breed thing, or just that he's bulked up as a character.

Your stable has grown so much and I adore them all. How do you find time?

Ah, thanksies!

I've been on such a crazy kick collecting horses... this is surely gonna overwhelm me soon.    But I do love them all dearly, and am enjoying having a fair few different builds/breeds with different possibilities.     I just need to finish up my last few ref's, and then I'll be able to actually start exploring some of their storylines.

I wish I could say that I had planned any of the things you pointed out (low set eyes, rounded muzzle, or even the muscled quarters)... but truth be told I just looked at a ref image and then did whatever seemed to work with my pencil on the paper.  I can not even guarantee he'll look the same next time.    But hey, that's what practice is for, yeah?

And I love your comments so much - they point out things I never even noticed in my artwork (so that I can actually work to replicating or adjusting them) - thank you so so much for that.

Thanks you luv!    I decided that I absolutely needed a grey dressage horse, and he turned out to be exactly what I hoped for.  I am excited to begin working/showing this handsome fella.

The horse's hindleg appears to have something not quite right about it the more I look at it. it doesn't depict muscles as they should look.

Yes - he is finally officially referenced!    Took me long enough.
Thank you - I am so so happy with him, and excited to add him to my stables storyline.
And as soon as I get a few other required refs done, I'll you about doing that show collab... our Traakers are gonna make such a stunning pair of handsome boys!!!

Ah, thanks luv.

I've been trying so hard to be good - working on my training/education/studies.  So this was a very fun and refreshing break for me - to be able to work on some HARPG art again.  And this stallion is so beautiful (BRLs designed him exactly as I had hoped), it was fun to work on his reference.  I really do enjoy him, and have high hopes for showing him in dressage (assuming I can find the time to draw everything in my head).

I was lucky enough to stumble on the Traakers just as the group was forming (in many ways it still really is) - so I was able to pick up a starter custom for cheap.  They seem like such a beautiful and elegant type, I hope I can do him justice.  They have only opened the one Classic type (with a draft type and trotter type still pending)... and lucky for me it was exactly the type I was hoping for (as I'm not hugely into trotters, and between Cavittos/Faime I feel like I've got plenty of that build in my barn already).

Of course I don't know the first thing about dressage in RL - so I guess next time I need a study break it will be time to go 'shopping' for dressage photo refs.    Need more material so I can make this boy come to life.

You're welcome!

I guess these pixel ponies are very welcomed break from reality, at least they are for me.
What could be better way to get away from dull duties for a while than having an escapistic moment by drawing these beautiful creatures?

I have now total 9 harpg horses (one still lacking reference) and I try save that tenth slot for something very special and hopefully for something from less known breed. But we'll see, I am pretty sure that the number quickly expandes to 19 and then I am looking for something very special for my 20th horse...
Of course there are also Shedus and other non-equine creatures which I kinda also count as "harpg" stuff even if they're not horses. But must have separate "budget" for those.

I am sure you'll do great job with all the dressage pictures you're going to draw! Have a happy photo ref shopping!

Hahaha... I give you mass props if you can actually stop at 10 horses.  I thought I would always be happy with just my one Arab, and then decided I wanted to pick up a "few" other breeds (that would go into a separate "other" stable)... next thing you know my "other" stable is overrun with critters that I just luv (AVS Barn Inventory ).  Now I think I have too many to draw... but I just can't bear the thought of parting with any of them.
Cough, cough... totally denies being a hoarder.

Not to mention I've had my eye on Harlequins, Hototos, Enochiari, Nazmei, Timekins, and Georgian Grande horses as well (... yes, I'm hopeless).

Agaave In reply to ReQuay [2014-06-26 20:19:51 +0000 UTC]

I guess my goal to stop at 10 is doomed to fail; there are too many gorgeous breeds out there.
Oh and I would love to see all those breeds you listed in your stable!
Even if we might don't have enough time to draw all the horses weekly or even yearly, we can still have enough love for each of them.

You are tots right... I may not have enough time to draw them consistently, but I do have enough love for each of them!  ♥

ReQuay In reply to sobreiros [2014-06-13 01:27:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.    And you caught that about the "mismatched" mane and tail...   I did the mane first, then as I was inking decided I didn't want the tail dragging.  But I was too lazy to go back and tidy up the mane (and change what I had inked already)... I figure if it's braided no one will ever know if they're not quite "matched."
Or maybe he'll be getting a haircut real soon.
