Description Vanessëa and Zess

Winter, Year 756 of the New Age
Silverthorne, Ash Plains

Check out ~Dawns-Death 's amazing story to accompany this picture:
Dash Across the Ash Plains (Literature Version)
Year 756 of the New Age, Winter,
Silverthorne, Ash Plains

Few clouds slithered across the sky, allowing the sun to take full advantage of the view. A cold, chilly breeze graced the amber blades of grass that blanketed the Ash Plains. It left a near silent rhythm to fill the otherwise quiet atmosphere. Winter was setting in, leaving the fall behind in the past until next year. Most of the trees had lost their leaves and the typically green grass began to lose its color. Snow had fallen several times already, but had yet to stick. Fall was reluctant to leave as of yet. Surprisingly, the plains were almost bare of wildlife, including fawnlings,

Forgive the hastily completed background. This picture is long overdue on my part, after ~Dawns-Death did such a fabulous job writing the perfect story and waiting patiently for me to complete the image. I've been sick, and unable to sit up and draw… or well do anything at all… as of late. Thank you my dear for waiting so tolerantly for me to try and finish this/throw something together. I tried a newer, fast/sketchy version of shading the fawnlings… it was definitely quicker than what I normally do, but I think it's OK since the overall image is a tad smaller in the panoramic view. Time for me to crash back into bed for another week…

Skills = Speed +2 (+1 chase x2 for collab)

This is so cool! The background is amazing, just enough detail to give a sense of space and depth, but not distracting. I love Vanessea's pose, and Zess's, both dynamic and give a sense of motion!

Amazing! I'm not often a fan of fawnlings, but here they just look stunning. The movement and reality of all the animals is portrayed perfectly!

Ooh, this is beautiful! I love how you've really captured the speed and motion in all of the characters and I actually think the blurred background is well done - it adds to the feeling of movement and the layers of colour really give it depth.

The wildcat is (even if he's chasing your fawns) so pretty - I love those tufted ears! And how long is Nessëa's tail? it could have its own postcode and it's epic!!

Thank you so much. I was trying to do something simple (aka quick) to get the background done... since the story had been finished quite a bit earlier. I'm so glad you think the blurred messiness works for this image.

Confession, I loved working on that caracal. I am a little off on some of his colors/size, but it was so much fun. And I didn't mind putting that crazy kitty in there, knowing the fawnlings were going to leave him in the dust.

Oh, Vanessëa's tail... I love that tail. I probably should dial the length back a little, but I love how long it is (I think of it as a genetic quirk or whatnot). Yes, I'm sure it would qualify for its own zip code.

You're welcome! sometimes blurred works better than having minute detail, and I think this is one of those times, definitely.

And its a caracal. I wasn't certain, and I first saw it and wen 'Lynx ears!' but I don't blame you - they're beautiful animals and me being a mainly equine artist, I do have a lot of fun when drawing something out of my comfort zone (like the raccoons that I adore to pieces but can't draw too well XD)

As for the tail - everyone seems to draw them a different length, so why not make it a genetic quirk? I think of Rue's as quite long, but nothing hugely noticeable. This gives Vanessëa an edge that makes her stand out ^^

I do have fun getting outside of my comfort zone.. but just a little. For some reason, I like to take on dogs (which I still struggle with) and now a wild cat, but I can't draw humans to save my life. I really need to draw them more often. I was hoping to do a training pic of Keira with Ciara for #equiBREAK , maybe something simple like the first time she had a halter put on, but that is so intimidating for me. I need to push myself. But that will wait until I have a little more time to draw again (time and inspiration).

I do like that crazy long tail. I think I'll probably keep the length somewhere between my last drawing (with Skarth) and this image... nice and enticingly long. Like you said, it can be her distinctive feature that makes her stand out.

Same here; I'm pretty wacky with canines, but I still draw them a fair bit. All of them come out kinda spindly (like my horses) which is okay if they're a Dali, but not so much if they're supposed to be the heavier type

And I know exactly what you mean about the people. Mine still have a long way to go but I am at least drawing them now - not just avoiding them, which I did for years. I don't know that it'll help too much - but if you wanted me to do any redlines for sketches, if you want to do them for equiBREAK, I don't mind (or if you'd rather someone else, you can post a journal asking if anyone's willing to redline for you). It gets you into drawing people, and gives you some guidance with anatomy and proportions to work with while you learn ^^.

Exactly. Long tails rock

Oh, redlines... that's a great idea. I should keep that in mind when I decide to try and give my next human a go. I might be hitting ya up for that in the future.
