Fan art of Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign! I made Mika, Rene, and Lacus into chicks. I couldn't cope with having characters just float around... I'm not exactly happy with how this one turned out. I really rushed it. Maybe I'll just do black-and-white sketches for the other genderbends instead of fighting with color and scenery.Critiques/Comments/Advice welcome!

How interesting; I've thought both Yuu and Mika would look beautiful if they were girls but you've managed to make Rene and Lacus look good as well. One question I have, don't the female soldiers on both sides wear skirts with their uniforms instead of pants?

Not always. For instance, Mito Jujo wears pants by the time the manga comes around.

Mito is the only female character I can remember who doesn't wear a skirt. In real life, female soldiers wear uniforms with skirts formally but when they are actually out in the battlefield, they wear pants along with the men since skirts can hinder their movements. They're also not allowed to wear their hair that long.

I don't recall seeing any female soldiers IRL wearing skirts as part of work attire, even outside of the battlefield. Maybe I'm just too unfamiliar with it. All the soldiers I know just wear their standard clothes. They can have long hair (the hair is actually required to be a certain length, lol), but they have to keep it in a bun.

My brother was in the army for a few years and women can wear formal uniforms with knee length skirts when they are not on the battlefield. I think they do in the navy too. If their hair is below the shoulders, they have to put it up. Male soldiers are required to wear their hair cropped which my brother hated. In SotE, I've notice a lot of soldiers on both the vampire/human army, male and female have pretty long hair which would probably not be allowed in real life since long hair can be a hindrance on the battle field like skirts.

Right. Since it's an artistic medium, more liberties get to be taken in Seraph. Of course, we would have a hell of a time telling all of the characters apart if they all looked the same like that. It would be different if it were a novel rather than a manga or anime.

I think so too. In real life, I've seen very few guys who look good with long hair. I used to joke with my friend all the time that I think only anime boys look good with long hair lol. As for the women, super long hair looks good in anime but women with hair down to their knees would kind of look strange in real life.

Anime hair is always strange. What is it with them and MASSIVE SPIRAL CURLS and PIGTAILS all the time anyway? Weird stuff.
I think hair looks good as long as it is taken care of. Miss Alaska (I think) had super-long gorgeous black hair like that a few years ago. Most of the men with long hair I've seen don't take care of it, so it just looks ratty. Those who do take care of it make it look really nice, though.

From what I've seen, its usually tall and slender men who look good with long hair if they groom it well. Unfortunately, there are a lot of jobs men can't get if their hair is too long. In America and most western countries, a man with long hair is seen as 'uncivilized'. Its only more acceptable if they're a rock star or Native American. I used to have very long hair and I can tell you its a pain to take care of. Nowadays, I wear my hair shorter because its more convenient.
