Must have been fun. I've only fired .50 calibres off of the back of a Canadian ship and a FN Minimi.

Spanish Ejercito (Army) uses G36 too, but it's a GERMAN gun.

Yep. I worked with the Spanish and German armies. Both very professional folks.

I don't think that Correia gut faxes strait. Germany used the FAL before HK started to distribute the G3. The G3 was fielded in to the military in the early 1960's.

It's possible, re when various countries used various weapons. But I'd give Correia the benefit of a doubt. But, moreso his rant was about the attitudes of H&K and their fanboys. In that regard, he was spot on.
I liked using some H&K products, including the G36 which Mr. Correia was less than thrilled, but I can't stand the company.

Yeah, I know. HK seems to be allergic to civilian shooters. LoL. It don't know why they just sell a semi auto version of there 416/417 and the g36 ( no not the SL8 ). The AWB/94 law is long gong, HK! PS In NY I mite be allowed to get a 416 upper for fix stock AR 15 lower but a folding stock G36 is out of the question.

416 uppers, if you can find them, are kinda expensive. Plenty of other piston uppers are around. A lot of the non-HK piston or op rod uppers have significantly longer usage warranties, at usually a fraction of the price. 416's are only expected for 4-6k rounds.

I agree. The LWRCs and POFs uppers are better bet for me, if I had the money.

May I ask another question since you've had the opportunity to use it?
Is it true that the optic integrated in the handle has poor visibility (very dark I've been told)?

Not that I noticed. But I haven't tried to use them with NVG's or what not.

Here in the US, you can only buy the SL8 unless you're military or government. HK doesn't like civilians much to begin with. A guy I know, Correia, wrote a rather accurate rant about HK: [link]

Yes and no. With a Special Occupation Tax, you can legally process any automatic weapons. For specific purposes. You cannot hold a SOT expressly for the purpose of collecting. You can possess them as inventory for selling to authorized parties. You can possess "dealer samples" for the purpose of demonstrating a weapon to police/military customers. Pre-86 transferables anyone can possess, subject to BATFE regulations.
It's a very very complicated business that is very expensive, with very very thin margins of error legally allowed.

Sorry but why do you write "Spanish Army G36" i mean its a german rifle... are there different versions for different countrys?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
revdisk In reply to XerraX [2006-06-06 21:20:48 +0000 UTC]
Yes, the G36 is made in Germany. However, the Spanish Army happened to own said rifles, so I called them "Spanish Army G36's".
And yes, there are different versions for different countries. The Spanish version lacks the red dot sight found on the German version. Something about the export of tritium being restricted. Tritium is also used in nuclear weapons, hence it's restrictions.

JadeMatrix In reply to revdisk [2008-02-02 21:05:29 +0000 UTC]
The reflex sight on the G36 uses ambient/battery light, not tritium, since they can't use tritium in Germany.

G36 does have some points I don't like. But I do believe it's a superior weapon. A varient of the G36 was in competition to replace the M16. Unfortunately it was not funded.

Just curious... Maybe I'm confused by the way you said it.. if you're Spanish Army, why are you wearing U.S. flags and U.S. Army namestrips?
If I was confused, and you're actually U.S. Army, why are you messing with a G36?

revdisk In reply to towo [2004-12-15 19:32:51 +0000 UTC]
Uhm... It's better to lower them than raise them. If you fire into the dirt, no one is hurt. If you fire up into the air, no one knows where it will land.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
towo In reply to revdisk [2004-12-15 19:39:36 +0000 UTC]
I know that. But we were taught that we've only to remove safety when about to shoot, and immediately go safe again after finishing firing. And, of course, having the sights up and aligned is an important part of the whole shooting progress, thus there should be no gun pointed low without safety (except for the case of a security check).
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
revdisk In reply to towo [2004-12-15 20:02:31 +0000 UTC]
Correct. We were in the process of shooting. We had not finished shooting. We were in the process of changing the selector switch in the middle of shooting. The weapons were pointed in a safe direction, at a safe elevation.
I'm not getting what the safety violation was.
