This made me giggle. It's so terribly true. Darwin, I love you, but I wish you would have spent more time on developing an anti-stupid gene.

The good part about an apocalypse: The people that survive are smart enough/mentally able to survive and even thrive, rather than live in this "Gimme" culture...

I can't disagree with this being a 'gimmie' culture, and it is becoming more so everyday. I used to have a bumper sticker that said it best:
"Come the Rapture, we'll have the world to ourselves."

Well, it's inevitable that the weak will be rooted out somehow... It's like stupidity karma the universe somehow, some way, will always kill off those who don't belong....
Like suicide.... It weeds out the mentally weak....
I take it you're a fan of the movie "Idiocracy"....
Because humans have created their own culture, and in a sense created a separate world we have adapted to our world, not to the world in the wild.... so thats comparativly speaking....

Exactly. Humans may have created a culture so that changes in environmental factors do not trigger evolutionary changes (baring disasters), but they developed a social order that does. We are seeing more and more cases of social stress causing changes, and there are some traits that are glorified in the media and such and those are then used as sex selectors. Some political movements are specifically focused at social structure and those things do create broad changes. I can't really tell if these social motivations move more slowly than environmental motivations on evolution, but it is definite that they do create change.
You also have these scientific/genetic changes occurring for seemingly no reason, but I think they are more socially derived. The out of control increases in things like Autism and ADHD and other social/learning disorders. These things are happening for a reason, but no one knows why yet. That is a kind of evolution that has happened remarkably fast and directly in front of us, yet we are not applying these changes in an evolutionary way, they are being dealt with as a social problem. Which just makes me think even more strongly that they are social in origin.
I actually haven't seen that movie, I will have to add it to my list though, thank you for the suggestion.
I am sorry for the long comment, but this kind of discussion is really a lot of fun to me...so I go a little nuts with them.

It's alright I do the same thing..... It's just that here in hillbilly hell No one understands what I'm even talking about. I usually get a reply along the lines of "Whuut? Shut Up! YER STEWPID" and then the conversation of who these Gorillas were 'Batin (masterbating) to last night continues....

I have the same problem, most of the time. Rehearse some line from Bones about the anthropological implications about masturbation, it confuses the hell out of them and generally make them roll their eyes and walk off.

Anthropological implications of masterbation? I'm no familiar with that.....
Maybe I need to watch Bones, but I usually stick to CSI....
Of course..... but what about that one creepy lazy eye....
I need to get them to walk off anyway.....

Let's put all our faith in technologies that are expensive and experimental at best! Killing is bad even people that deserve to die! Christianity is Evil!

Thank you, I tend to fall more in line with classic republican (aka Ron Paul) or libertarian, which believe it or not are a lot closer than they seem. One thing I would say to be careful of is taking the mainline political ramblings and running with them. I mean making fun of both groups is fun, but don't forget that both sides are pretty much being run by idiots at the moment. Republicans are bowing in front of big corporations and taking it up the butt, meanwhile Democrats are doing the same for unions. Unfortunately modern politics seems to be more about picking your poison than running the country effectively and the way it was intended to be run. Which contrary to most misguided opinions the founding father's vision is not outdated it is, for the most part, exactly what we need a heavy dose of right now.

Agreed, As my Grandpa (who is a devoted Republican) said, "We became Socialist as soon as They said 'the Constitution is a malliable thing'" Most of the founding fathers are rolling in their graves right now......
I don't usually get interested in politics (like protests and stuff) unless it's absolutely making witty banter about it......
But we're near the end of the Marx cycle, so the Revolution is coming......
And so it goes, in a constant cycle....

[link] I think you may be able to appreciate that, or your Grandpa would. Laws have to change with the times. I know that, but the basic freedoms set out in the constitution are based on natural rights, and as such are (or should be) a constant in this country. It is the natural rights that are under attack these days, and have been for a while. Take a minute and think about what it means for a country when it's leaders are actively attacking the very things that it was built and made great upon. Logic would tell you that it is then not the same country and is constantly changing. I am fine with the slight swings between the left and right that are natural as leaders change and ideologies evolve, but a fundamental change is unacceptable. At least to me. I still believe that the founding fathers wrote something in The Constitution that is indelible, it is (or can be) applied to any time and any place and work. It might not work immediately, but I think it would eventually. In my eyes The Constitution is an immortal thing. Though, it is quite obvious from history that no country or group is immortal. Cycles occur in everything, I agree with you, but that does not mean I have to be happy and silent when they come around to the side that I don't agree with.
So that is me, the non-silent one (at least for now).

You and me both. I really hope it does not take a full fledged revolution to get this country back on track, I would hate to see it go out like this. I seriously think that our best years could be ahead of us. Wow, that was a little optimistic, I am full of surprises at 3:30 in the morning.

Optimisim for the future sometimes goes hand in hand with pessimism for the present. However if one's pessemistic for humanity, then the future is bleak...
I'm the latter.

I see your point, but in the scope of things humans are 10,000 years behind in evolutionary terms. So, natural selection really moves slowly, and we do have lots of cultural buffers that insulate us from most things that would initiate evolution or natural selection.

Natural selection doesnt really apply to a species that has evolved to outrun evolution. For millions of years species had to evolve ways to handle situation. Humans simply adapt right on the spot to most of these situations. Thus we to an extent exist outside the normal flow of things. Thus stupidity reigns with an iron fist!!! Btw I believe the bible and evolution can co-exist. Both concepts have holes in them, but together they actually fit quite nicely. Way to go sparking deep thoughts around 2 am! Keep up the good work!
