So true. Religions are designed to feed a need. All faiths seem to fall under me-ism.

I can see your point, and I am sure that it is true in some cases, but I must say I don't completely agree with it (from a personal standpoint). Thanks for the comment, I am glad you enjoyed the icon.

Philosopher Dan Dennett calls for religion -- all religion -- to be taught in schools, so we can understand its nature as a natural phenomenon. Then he takes on The Purpose-Driven Life, disputing its claim that, to be moral, one must deny evolution.

That is a fascinating talk! Thank you for bringing it to my attention, I have agreed with Dennett for a while now. The only way to have a society that that is truly free religiously is to educate citizens in various world religions. That would limit the misunderstandings that are most common to all religious followers. More than that schools need to get their heads out of their asses and actually teach science. My high school wasn't even allowed to mention the name Darwin, now I don't care if the schools teach creationism too, but they need to at least teach evolution as a scientific theory.

Glad you enjoyed Dennett's short lecture. Creationism or it's new mask "Intelligent Design" is a problem for me, though, and I (along with better minds such as Richard Dawkins) say it shouldn't be taught alongside serious science. Dawkins points out that no serious scientist today disputes evolution. Evolutionary biologist may dispute some particulars about exactly how this or that evolved. But, again, no real scientist accepts ID as a valid alternative theory. In religion classes children are taught "This is true, because this is true, because this is true." As kids we're not taught to ask "What is the evidence for this?" I think you'll enjoy conversations Dawkins has with Charlie Rose on the charlierose.com site. Just enter Dawkins in the search field. Christopher Hitchens has a lot to say about religion, too. And he's easy to find on youtube.

I really don't need to watch their talks, I have read multiple articles and books on the subject as well as had several classes that have covered evolution. I love Dawkins, I went to his lecture when he came through to my college. Hitchens is great, I love the way he explains to people that the joke of evolution is that there has actually been to much time (as in we don't know why there were plateaus in the evolutionary time line).
Someone you may be interested in talking to (because I have no time to do so) is . If you will go to the last comments on the poll on my page you will see exactly what I mean.
Let me just say though ... I do believe in evolution, but I have also seen and been through some things that have left me with the impression that there is a higher power. I don't know what said power is, I don't need to know. I have studied lots of different religions, I still have no clue. I border right between this and atheism.

Curses! Yet again, something I came up with independantly has been known for years.
Though technically, it's sadder than that. Imaginary friends are on par with you. These are imaginary parents.

I find that happens a lot, because we hear it from somewhere and it sticks in our subconscious. It happens to me too, lots of my initial icon ideas are floating around the internet. Thank heavens for google so I can check them.

Well, that does happen to everyone, but trust me, I know when I've heard something before after I see it somewhere else.
I seriously wrote Murphy's Law, Shakespeare's "Harm to heal" line, and that (among other things) on my own, then discovered that they've all basically been done.

Now I am curios what you write on your own if you re-wrote those without knowing. Well, I will have to later ... got to get to school at the moment.
Yeah, like I said a lot of my initial icon ideas have to be scrapped because I found out they are quotes by someone else. Lately I have been using some quotes, but I always cite, even when its just a topic suggestion from someone on dA.

Well, if you look at my profile, you may notice some stuff I write that I figure would do well on DA. My favorite is probably Evil Inc.
It really is annoying, isn't it? At least you aren't doing an ISU.

Well, this icon is very similar to George Carlin's stand up, and he points out similar things in his comedy that Penn & Teller do in their show.

He's hilarious in Religulous. He basically goes around dissing every religion out there while making friends with some of the believers.
