WOW! I haven't been to your site for a while, but it's clear your skills haven't diminished. This is GREAT! I just rewatched the movie a few days ago and it's still pretty cool...(sigh)

Yes I do! I'm glad you like the site; I'm sorry I don't get to update as much as I would like.
It is good to hear my intent with this piece comes across well!

I think I'm pretty much required to at least leave a comment, eh? I like your backlighting, too. ^^ Digital painting -- in a painterly way, at least-- is pretty darn difficult.

Naw, you don't ever need to feel obligated to comment. But I do appreciate it when you do!
I used Painter for this. It's like using oil paints for realz. You can smoodge around the colors and mix them on the canvas. You should try it if you have the opportunity.
I saw the piece you posted on your blog, and it does look painted, particularly on the face. I've actually never tried to be painterly in Photoshop... I'm really not quite sure how to go about doing so... I guess custom brushes and opacity settings and a lot of layers???

Wow, that looks amazing! The coloring effects really made an impact on this scene.
This would've made a great splash image.

This is really pretty - I love the light effect overhead.

Thanks!
I actually meant the light to be more "imaginary" in origin and from behind, as Mewtwo sinks head-first downward. It twisted my brain a bit, but I can see how it can be interpreted as coming from above, as if we are looking up from the lake-floor at Mewtwo, especially since it makes more sense for the light to come from the sun rather some imaginary source. In this case it is not too big of a difference, but I guess in the future I should be a bit more careful with imaginary lights and how they will be logically interpreted...
