Description
This was a watercolor piece I had finished for NaguCon and now finally am uploading here for everyone to see. The idea behind this painting is based off of the Latin word "vanitas". In History, we have art pieces known as Vanitas paintings which artists used as an excuse to paint pretty things in still life, but there was always an underline tone normally dealing with death. Common objects found in vanitas paintings would be bubbles, decaying fruit, hourglass, a skull, rotting things, etc., which would normally be sitting next to other pretty still life objects like jewels, riches, silk, etc. So this is my vanitas painting I did, showing how in the end all is vanity. The woman in the center, fun fact, I tried to personify a White Dwarf star, giving off a small nova explosion from the gas it borrowed from it's fellow stars, but in the end it will be a dead star. I wanted to convey that all of us, our bodies, our possessions, grand architecture, even time and space, will end as we return to the dust from whence we came. Nothing outlasts time, including time itself. Hope everyone enjoys this!
