Description
Build 5112 Basic Visual Style for Windows XP.Inspired by the Basic variation of the Aero theme featured in
Windows Vista Code Name Longhorn Beta 1 Build 5112.
This is a complete VS, meaning it supports:
Normal, Large and Extra Large fonts.
32px and 48px icons.
Contains two shellstyles:
Basic - Normal, left side vertical task pane (Beta 1 'control panel' style).
Basic 2 - Bottom, horizontal task pane.*
IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ:
The Start button is dynamic, so the (included) white logo
start button bitmaps for explorer.exe and Segoe UI fonts MUST be installed
prior to applying the msstyle to display correctly. Please refer to the
instructions in the Start Button Bitmaps folder for help.
For accurate Window borders and menu height adjustments: Display Properties > Appearance > Advanced;
Active Window Border -> 4, and Menu -> 22.
Genuine wallpapers and Build 5112 Styler Toolbar are also included.

No. This theme was finished about two years ago. I preferred not to add any 'dummy parts' (except for search in the optional Styler toolbar), because it makes the VS look tacky. Better to build the visual style to accommodate features -- or in this case lack of features, for the legacy OS.

Thanks for the compliment. However, the start button will not be changed. It's styled this way for a reason -- because this VS is a faithful recreation of Windows Vista Beta 1 Basic.

Great theme except the start button is too much like the standard one which I hate. You changed it's colour yes, but that's not enough. It needs re-styling also. It's one of the most hated, silly features of xp. (Press "start" to stop your PC -- really makes sense -- not!)

I would like to add a suggestion. The menu bar (titlebar) separation lines are too thick/standout and rather distracting. If you use group box borders there, it would look very clean and appealing.

Yes, I know what you mean -- but that's the way it is in the beta, and I wanted to make it as close as possible to the original, warts and all! Difference is, in the beta, you only saw those lines primarily when opening Computer Management, etc.
I might do a streamlined version next, though.

Thanks right back for the compliments, and the valued input. I had been sitting on this theme for over a month (looking for bugs), and I got used to it. But thanks for pointing that out. I went ahead and lightened the edge highlights by about 30%. It's smoother now, yet still retains the authenticity, if you will.
Updated, everyone! It's the smallest of an edit, but you might want to DL it again.

That was so much fun waiting for it! (But... not well worth it, M$)
Yey! Let's get 60,000 people to make Windows Vista only to cut more than half of the features out and make it really annoying... oh and... delay it for a couple years...
