Description Windows Vista Beta 1 Build 5112 style logon for Windows XP.

Notes:
Background will adjust to all resolutions, as it is a dynamic gradient and not an image.
Full button effects, i.e. mousefocused and keyfocused/selected.
User picture frame will expand upon selection.
System messages will display correctly, e.g. "Windows is shutting down..."

About as close to the real thing as I could get!

Enjoy!

Update (final): Removed the "blue flash", thanks to a great little hack courtesy of dis @ neowin forums.

IS there any chance you can hide the "shutdown" part?

Aww...

I was really hoping for a LogonUI file, not the executable...

Do you think you could redesign this in LogonUI, so the we don't have to hack system files to use them?

Oh, and make it for a 1680 by 1050 screen?

Thanks!

This is a logonui file, not an installer if that's what you mean. You could extract the logonui.exe file to C:\ and then make a small registry edit* to direct to the new logon without the fear of overwriting your original.

*Open regedit and navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look for the string "UIHost"

Double-click and change it to "C:\logonui.exe" (without the quotes)

Exit regedit and enjoy the new logon!

To restore the original, simply go into regedit again and change the path back to "logonui.exe" (without the quotes) and delete the file from C:\.

To answer your other question, this logon will fit any resolution.

Hope that helps. If you're using a certain program to manage your logon, then let me know. I don't use any, but I could probably accomodate if so.

It's a beautiful program; I'm surprised you've never heard of it.

Great! It's amazing how stylish such a small-sized logonui can be. I really appreciate that you made an effort to make all of the effects mentioned working. Keep it up!
