I am the Co commander of "The Greek Warriors" an ancient Greek living History group and "the Byzantine Regiment" a late period Byzantine Living history group. Did you get a chance to see my epic music video? [link]
What group are you a part of, and how long did it take to put your kit togther? are you in the states? west coast maybe?

Actually I live in France. I am part of "Fief et Chevalerie", a 12th and 13th century reenactment group, which has 3 geographical subdivisions: the north of France, Byzantium and the middle east. The kentekarkhes is part of the Byzantine subdivision, and I am part of the middle-eastern subdivision, as a Mongol warrior with heavy Khwarezmian influence. It's quite a new subdivision, and so is our Byzantine subdivision... Basically, we had enough of seeing so many knights templar and hospitalers on french medieval faires, so we decided to build up an "opposing force"
I plan to make a Mongol-specific group some time in the future.
Other than that, I am also part of the "Compagnons d'armes de la Tour d'Auvergne", where I reenact an "lance archer", according to the 1447 edict by king Charles VII.
Finally, I also am thinking about making a 4th century BC "crimean Scythian", with a lot of greek influence. I am working on the clothing at this time. Since Scythian reenactors are quite rare, I might join a Greek group, called "Athenea Promakhos"

Yes, it's a spanish group, but it has a lot of french members.
By the way, do you know if there is some online calendar of living history events in the US?
