Simply wonderful and damn accurate ! I noticed you lived in Paris. I'm living here too and want to re-enact medieval warriors mostly Eastern ones however I cannot find any weapons/armour/clothing from those civilizations... Where did you buy them ? And another thing, how much did you pay for the bow ? I want to start archery too but the Turkish/Balkan/Mongol/Arab types of bows seem quite expensive...

Arabic term for "slave". Ghulams were bought at a young age as slaves, usually in the balkans or russian regions. They were taught Islam, and grown as warriors acconrding to medieval arabic fighting methods "Furusiyya". Some were also taught in economy, logistics, administration, and how to lead troops. Finally, when ready, they were converted to Islam, freed from slavery, and they entered the Ghulam, the elite cavalry of Sultans.

Later, the word Mamluk was used instead of Ghulam, and one such Mamluk, Baybars, became Sultan of Egypt, throwing down the Ayyubid dynasty of Saladin.
