Weirdly, this was one of my favourite stories in the Silmarillion. I always felt sorry for Eol, he was one of the best characters.

Hell yeah! I also LOVE Maeglin, but there seems to be a general consensus that they are among the most hated characters, especially Eol. Good to know I am not alone in my love for him!

I really love the distrust onΒ Aredhel's face, because their story always creeped me the heak out. He...lured her there and didn't allow her to leave. That aint love.Β Β

Beautiful picture, captures the magic of Nan Elmoth. EΓΆl is an interesting character and although he is a shady person he must have been charming in his own way (pun intended). While his ways were questionable from the start (luring Aredhel deeper into the forest), I think there surely was a genuine mutual love between them for a time.

I also think he loved her for real, but in such insane way depending on his hate for Noldor. He was a strange character, and one of my fav from Silmarillion!

Yes, it is odd but it shows well the paradoxes of life, that he fell in love with one of the hated Noldor. Alas for the consequences it had for Gondolin.

oooooh, wonderful! Yes, I agree that EΓΆl must have been handsome in his own way, and admit it, it is very unlikely that they would have had a happy married or even begotten Maeglin if he had been horrible from the start (there is a mention somewhere in Tolkien's writings that Elves dies if they are taken by force)

I agree, Nelyasun! I really think that in the beginning Aredhel found herself lost in this strange and obscure forest, and in a certain way the only anchor for her was Eol. In that time I mean, she was in love with him. Β

yes
something clearly must have gone wrong later, when Maeglin was in his teenage years. Personally, I think EΓΆl feared to lose them both in a possible orc attack if they left and he would not be there to protect them. Imagine the nightmare, of your wife and only son possibly dragged in chains to Angband to become slaves or killed....

I like the gown of Eol - he is dressed to impress)) And he succeeded) The colour is really gloomy and misterious like the elf was. He is emerging from the envirenment like the mist that can Β mislead and so Aredhel was lost))

Wow... this is so gorgeous!! Fantastic work. I love how delicate and wary she looks. And he actually looks so attractive and strong Β - I'm glad you didn't make him look sinister or wicked, or give him a hunched back.Β

love it, Eol looks noble and dark. This is like the Tolkien version of the Phantom of the Opera.
