Description Just one of the many practice shots I took sunday night. I played around with the flash tonight, and learned quite a few things.

2nd-curtain flash does help for some shots. Some shots it does nothing or makes it worse.

Each performer has their own style. And they don't spin at a constant rate. Thus the lighting is always Drastically changing. After much experimenting I think I have found an "optimal" setting to use. Only took me 3 weekends...

I wish I had an external flash. The on-board camera flash is a little weak. I'd love to experiment with a 580ex on these guys.

I have found a better vantage point for the practices, but its farther away. I'm pretty sure that my flash will be useless from there. I think 55mm zoom might be OK from there though, might be just long enough.

Sensational - really nicely done.

It's a shame the 2nd sync didn't work out at we had hoped - but don't give up on it... it takes a bit of fiddling to get E-TTL II to work the way you want it to. I agree though, a speedlite would make life a lot easier - but $$$!

I really like the flame exposure here, the fire detail is great.

Nice one!
Best, tns

Thanks!

I should have mentioned that even though I found "optimal" settings. That isn't it above Its very close though. Now that I know what settings to use I think im going to drop down to ISO 200 and hope that will reduce some noise. At ISO 200 at .8sec f8-f14 should provide some great images. Wish I had a speedlite
