hehe.. thank you for the feedback.. but you kinda stating the obvious here, arent you ? i figured out where those shadows came from and how to fix them but i still have no idea on how to get better results on the hair...

haha.. nice.. poser setting.. not really useful either since im not using poser to render.. but you got the first part kinda right.. i tried image based lighting here too.. except then in the vray render engine and not in firefly.. what i tried here was using the same image as the background as a "IBL".. and that creates a couple of weird shadows.. but actually using a colored map will give much better results on the end render.. in poser or in any other render engine for that mater.. especially if you have reflecting materials in the scene.. if you use b/w all reflecting materials will show as b/w too.. and that reduces the realism in the overall render...
now, im sorry but the last part doesnt make any sense at all.. even in poser if you do what you said you end up with a really weird result in the end render, simply cause black on a texture will result in really dark hair in poser and you will lose all the detail of the texture map on the hair, it works a bit different in 3ds max, cause diffuse colors get overrided if you use texture maps.. the other problem is if you give the hair a high specular value in vray you end up seeing the planes that the hair is made off.. you loose the whole effect of loose single hair strings.. kinda like i have here too.. it all becomes one big compact thing...

saphy, the bench and the tree on the right side are all 3d, rest of the image is a photograph...

A simple yet effective scene. The background looks like an actual photo, what's the location? The subject is blended seamlessly in, the whole thing looks really natural.
