Yeah Mass Effect 3 did truly not the same thing as the halo rings in the famous ending..
...they only rewrite the genetics on a micro level of all living beings (including AI) in the whole milky way galaxy in under a minute PLUS giving them somehow a collectedΒ consciousness.Β
That is in fact quite different (and maybe more advanced).

i'm not sure, if we take the halo 4 Cortana i think she can win ( not sure i don't know halo's serie's very good) but i remember she have foreigners code part's in her "mind", or something like that, i think that can help her in an informatic battle.
EDI is made from Reapers code, she is very powerful in informatic counter measure, maybe she can lieterally shut down cortana, in the doubt i say EDi win.

cortana.
1. EDI dosent have a spartan for a boyfriend.
2. cortana has a physical body (see end of Halo 4)
3. she can disrupt electrical systems (again see Halo 4)

EDI
1.cortana has a lifespan (~7 years).
2.EDI doesn't.
3.EDI has a physical body.
4.cortana's body was made out of hardlightΒ (presumably).
5.All EDI has to do is wait for cortana to go rampant beyond functionality or simply shutdown.
6.EDI wins

ah yes. BUT cortana has gone and achieved metastability and now can jump between systems and "real life". and she wont go any further into rampancy. there is a precedence of this happening with UNSC AI "momma" introduced in the halo animated episode Odd One Out. so to counter your argument in the same fashion
Β 1.cortana has a lifespan (~7 years). WRONG. now has a life span of AT LEAST 20-50 years.
2.EDI doesn't. that is revealed
3.EDI has a physical body. so does cortana.
4.cortana's body is made out of hardlight. can hack into anything. including EDIs body.
5.All EDI has to do is wait for cortana to go rampant beyond functionality or simply shutdown. NOPE.avi
6.EDI wins. sorry no. cortana would hack and destroy EDI

FaustianFox In reply to ThatTF2Guy [2015-02-24 09:09:07 +0000 UTC]
Cortana died before she achieved "metastability",she was still rampant at the time of her death. Also odd one out wasn't intended as or is considered canon.check the special features commentary for it,a bungie senior developer expressly states so(forgot his name, Jason something).EDI's "body" isn't the android pictured here, its the Normandy sr2.she has total control of it. Cortana has to physically interact with something to hack it unless she has access to a transmitter, and when she using one, her effectiveness at hacking is severely reduced.EDI has access to a transmitter at all times(otherwise she wouldn't be able to control her android). Even if Cortland managed to hack edi's android all edi would have to do is cut the link between Normandy and the android.then immediately annihilate it using the Normandy's weaponry, which she has access to at all times.
1.Cortana has a 7 year lifespan.
2.EDI's lifespan Is longer than seven years
3.EDI's has an android, and a ship at all times.
4.cortana has a spartan that she can only direct, not control.
5.cortana rarely has access to (much less direct control over) any ship.
6.EDI has more resources available to her than Cortana.
7.EDI wins.

Alright now that I've read up on Halo 5's storyline I have to switch to Cortana (sorry EDI).
She seems to have solved or at least delayed rampacy. As well as having control over both the Guardians and Warden Eternal. Which gives her a SEVERE advantage over EDI in both ground and space conflicts. Now that She has attained "The Mantle" (supposedly), She Far Outmatches EDI in every Category.
Computational Power: Cortana
More numerous resources: Cortana
More Powerful ship(s) and Infantry force:Cortana
If EDI tries to take on Cortana in cyber warfare, Cortana wins.
If EDI tries to take on Cortana in space, Cortana's Guardian(s) win easily.
If EDI tries to take on Cortana on land, Warden Eternal stomps the sh*t out of her.
Even if EDI manages to win in land or space, all Cortana has to do is send another Warden or Guardian into the fight.
1v1 a Guardian is easily 10 times as powerful as the Normandy.
1v1 Warden Eternal is a stronger combatant than EDI's android.
I see no way of EDI winning in any enviroment.

EDI's design and programming are based on a Reaper black box.Β Cortana's is based on a scan of a human brain.Β Not only does EDI have a superior base program, she is capable of remote cyber attacks while Cortana requires a physical port to be effective in cyberwarfare, and Cortana's rampancy could be something EDI could capitalize on.

...er... yeah, about that.Β Weapons and computer technology is more advanced in the Mass Effect universe.Β Though Master Chief would win in most hand to hand engagements, he has a pistol.Β EDI has mass accelerated weapons and an Omni-Tool that could easily drain his shields.Β The MJOLNIR armor which was designed to counter directed energy weapons wouldn't be that effective against a weapon that deals extreme kinetic damage.Β Master Chief would lose that shootout, especially if he was being controlled by a spray and pray idiot.

PyramidHead90 In reply to Ghostofpinbot6 [2015-02-10 11:41:04 +0000 UTC]
The Protheans?Β Why bring them up?Β EDI was based on Reaper technology, specifically her original AI was built around a Reaper black box.
Also, another thing you got wrong.Β Mass Effect ships CAN make faster than light jumps on their own, the Mass Relays just speed things along.Β With the added benefit that the Element Zero cores require less of a start up time than slipspace drives.

The crown is definitely handed to Cortana.
Cortana could process the entire history of Humanity in a matter of a few hours, she could crack open the secrets of Installation 04, hack into the Covenant Battle Net and many other feats that she's done in her 8 year life-span. Cortana has always wanted to be real instead of a simple hologram or a computer chip and so she's always been thinking about how it's like to see/feel/hear/taste/smell like a REAL being. While looking at a star, she could give countless reasons why it's not real... and that was just having a slight glimpse at an object inside Requiem.
EDI is a joke of an AI. She has an extremely massive core installed right into the Normandy and yet, she isn't capable of doing at least half of the feats that Cortana has performed and Cortana, with all her processors and other AI stuff, is stored within a data crystal that can be inserted into a slot designed for neural implants. EDI can be easily hacked, as seen in the Citadel DLC, where she acts weird after the Normandy is captured and it shows that it doesn't even take a brain to hack her... what kind of a Death Battle is this? This is a steamroll in Cortana's favor.

It's pretty hilarious seeing the respective fan-boys of any sci-fi franchise try to pull up scientific derivatives from made up facts to defend a crossover event that is inherently flawed to begin with (namely the simple point that characters are created for their universe with their own strengths and limitations, lack of which would just be fail storytelling). Comparing even similar characters from two different universes is just a matter of apples and pears. Personal preference.
Of course, the level of passion and effort dedicated to their arguments certainly prove that the creators of these franchises were hugely successful in grabbing their audiences imagination and loyalty, which is quite an achievement.
But personally I like EDI more as a character. She is new to being fully self governing, and she looks at humanity with a sense of humor and curiosity. She's a unique character, both in and outside of her universe, and she's more likeable, to me anyways, because she's been a consistent personality through both games, despite a full physical revamp. I haven't followed Halo very closely though, so I'm just talking out my ass here, but the impression i got from Cortana in Halo 4 is just a bit too much like a frail damsel in distress type character, Aerith in a blue leotard, which, compared to her tough feisty and entertaining attitude in the earlier games, chips a little at my suspension of disbelief. Though, given, whether EDI would behave the same way if she were about to be decommissioned is basically up to whether or not a competent writer is hired by the production company so in conclusion, I like my bacon crispy and my eggs scrambled.

The UNSC use two types of AI.
Dumb AI: Are simply programmed and cannot really be complete human, they are slower and less effective than Smart AIs.
Smart AI: Are crated from the human brain, most are created with a drone's brain, however Cortana was created from the cloned brain of Dr Halsay. Smart AI will always gain new knowledge to the point were they think them selves to death after 7 years. If they survive Rampancy they reach metastability basically becoming completely human (with out bodes of mental limitations.)

Lol Ironically I feel the same way about Halo, given that its fans often have them raping civilizations way above their tier (UNSC destroying EU Galactic Empire in a poll, the increasing attempts to put Halo above 40k even when full-powered Chaos is counted ect). Greg Bear's Forerunner series, while enjoyable, only increased the problem
Reapers come from a setting that claims to be a "hard" science fiction meaning it is at a innate disadvantage when compared to soft or less realistic ones. Reapers can probably beat Covenant/UNSC groundside conflict but would lose in space...probably. I don't pay attention to Space Battles and their endless and ever-changing calcs.

Does are trolls, SW beats the unsc even 40k, but for sw the 200gt yield for turbo lasers are only on the EU, higher canon are the movies and visuals puts them in low mt to dub kt level not including the dead star the republic were using ray shields which do nothing against ke weapons the empire on the other hand have shields that stop both.
The science behind ME is based on a magical non existing element that with out it they are nothing that's why ME is so overrated.
Forerunners destroys 40k sw and reapers all together, they are not overrated that are just a highly advance civilization that defies space and time as well as physics who have 3 million worlds under their control.
This This is how I see it from highest to lowest, doctor who, precursors, culture, forerunners, star trek, star wars, post UNSC, covenant, reapers.

Yep calc spam ahoy. SpaceBattles is obsessed with those, which I am not so fond of as they are rarely officially cannon given estimates yet treated as such. SW beating 40k is something I extremely disagree with. Even though I can see them beating modern (not Emperor led GC era) Imperium due to hyperdrive speed advantage Chaos and Necrons present too great a problem for SW empire.
And yet it isn't it better than the UNSC, who many consider to be only barely above par modern day forces ground forces wise (this feeling is particularly common on SB) ? ME may rely on EEZO true but it is a fun, rich universe a lot more fleshed out then Halo and IMO vastly better games.
HAHA no... if we are using highest feats, which due to 40k's schizophrenic cannon policy are equally cannon as the low ones, than Chaos is a universe busting force only held barely in check by the Emperor and without the Emperor everyone dies. They also have control of space and time (yes, time too...read Path of the Seer for the possibility of Chaos time travel), have been the doom of countless civilizations and have limitless demons capable of endlessly respawning. Oh and they can corrupt anything, even those without Warp Signatures (tau- sanctuary of worms, fire warrior) meaning that the Forerunners aren't immune either.
This is how I see it of factions I acually know a bit about : Doctor Who, Chaos at highest, Precursers, Culture, Forerunners/War in Heaven Necrons, 40k (general), SW (general), ME/Halo (modern)
