Description Class: Arthropoid

Fusion between human and mole cricket. Though nearly blind, the Molevolent's antennae and facial tentacles are extremely sensitive to sound waves, allowing it to navigate by echolocation as it stridulates its stunted wings. With a slight drop in pitch, this same mechanism becomes a formidable sonic weapon, paralyzing prey with an agonizing screech.

The Molevolent's tremendous digging claws can vibrate at high speed to drill through solid matter. Growing for the duration of its indefinite lifespan, the forelimbs may eventually dwarf the rest of its body.

Molevolent are omnivorous, but especially crave sweet tubers such as yams, which seem to give them a momentary but staggering energy boost.

---------------

I just realized it's been a few months since my last new Monster; I've got a backlog of sixty or seventy concepts waiting for me to start on, but I'm still wrapping up art for the Role-Playing Game, so here's just one to tide you over, one of my favorite insects and long overdue for an Arthropoid.

The thing about yams was kind of a stupid whim. When I think yams I think of Popeye's "I yam what I yam" catchphrase, so yams are to Molevolent as spinach is to popeye. I told you it was stupid.

Adore this design. This is the kind of monster design that could fit in almost anything that needed a good unique creature.

This is one of those great Mortasheen that not only has an appearance that's immediately striking but is also full of interesting subtleties.

Those arms are an incredible design. Not content with mole claws in its fingers, it also has them as dewclaws and Batman gauntlets. The head is also fantastic. It's like what a star-nosed mole would look like if it tried harder, plus antennae to remind us that it's a cricket. The body suits it well. It gives the impression of an exaggerated cartoon macho guy. The legs really remind me of a Kenner Alien figure. Lastly, I think the stunted petal-like wings are a nice touch. I like the texture you've given them. They look so pretty and orderly compared to the rest of the monster.

This one's an instant classic.

The weird claw arrangement actually follows a mole cricket's actual foreleg structure somewhat, they have truly bizarre digging appendages!

I guess that is sort of what you'd get from crossing mole cricket limbs with vertebrate limbs. At any rate, it's really cool.

Horrificbulgingvestigialeye the Sailor Mutant? Awesome!

You're very good at portraying a fusion of internal and external skeletons.

I love the shading on this. it's soft on something so deformed and horrifying but it works really well.

Yes but that's all humans really add to the arthropoid monsters; a basic vertebrate frame, and intelligence
