Description
The so called Dump Droid was build for transporting materials of all king, mostly for construction purposes, as well as resources. Most were equipped with an open-box bed, many were droids themselves, or manned by organic and droid crews, nearly all of them had robotic arms to grab and place grabbed items, resources and other equipment into their loading area at their rear. Like this droid arms the loading area was also powered by hydraulics. Only a few variants used walking legs of various numbers and sizes instead of hover technology, giving them a more humanoid look. Their name came from them dumping the transported goods in sides designated for doing so on garbage mounts, or even into factory resource inputs from were they would be transported automatically to the production lines. Over the course of the Clone Wars, many were used to clean battlefields after the fighting had ended and especially the Separatist Alliance used them to collect damaged or destroyed droids, bring them back to their bases and factories for repairs, or to recycle them if they were to badly damaged to still build new droids out of them. The Clone Wars also had the first military use of these vehicles, mostly in Separatist Remnants and isolated Holdouts were they were boost to increase the Confederacy of Independent Systems numbers by adding armored plates to them. In a few chases they even had additional weaponry build into them, mostly light blasters and light anti-vehicle weaponry. Some however would outright use their claws directly to engage with enemy vehicles, especially in heavy urban environment, were they could much easier sneak up on the enemy and ambush them in tiny side streets or yards, unlike on open field were the relatively slow droids were a much more easier target for enemy artillery, orbital bombardment and other direct attacks from afar they could not counter in any way or form efficiently. In some chases these Dumper Droids were even used to carry and “dump” battle droids, even some larger variants of them on battlefields as additional, proviso transport and carry vehicles whenever there were not enough regular ones around. Unlike most droids who had to be reprogrammed and partly even rebuild for continued civil use after a fight once more and were actually one of the more valid droids and manned vehicles doing so.
After all they were capable of clearing battlefields relatively safety even from not detonated explosives, help take out rumble and ruined building parts in war-thorn urban environments and directly move the successors from there back to factories, so they could immediately be used for rebuilding purposes once more. Because of this Dumper Droids despite playing a nor irrelevant role in Separatist operations and the overall war effort were not seen with the same negative stigma that overall battle droids or other specialized types were which brought death and destruction either directly, or indirectly to a world. Dumper Droids were also frequently used by criminal groups like the Black Sun, the Zann Consortium or others, who mixed in dead enemies of their, toxic waste or other dangerous things into the garbage, scrap or other successors transported, mostly when these transport lead to massive garbage junkyard deposits, or even garbage junkyard worlds were they could easily get rid of these illegal items, as long as the price paid to them in some good credits was enough. Many of this Dumper Droids and especially the factories that owned them therefore had some connection to the galactic underworld and criminal groups, sometimes outright being owned by some of their relatives or members directly. While the Galactic Republic had always tried to crack down on this connection, they had failed in doing so as much as they had failed controlling the Banks and End Slavery in the Galaxy. The Imperialists would have a better time doing so, as they used sheer brute force, but often looked the other way as well if they benefited from this criminal gangs in some way or form, no matter if they were slavers, smugglers, space pirates or other criminal groups. Smugglers would also use Dumper Droids and hide illegal goods within the garbage and resource masses on their backs from time to time, or have parts of the Dumper Droid modified to have secret caches and other hidden deposits were they could store at least s few smaller items and goods, or limited numbers of them. Just like with Transport Droids or Truk Dorids or vehicles, there was nearly no driver and company that didn’t at least try to profit a little bit on the side, by either outright smuggling illegal items, or store more legal goods to avoid having to pay taxes for them.
