Pangaea: Because Y!Gallery is inspiring. Because I love Lazuli's profile. Because I wanted to draw something that conveyed the feeling of just a little naughtiness without actually showing anything inappropriate at all.It struck me when I started doodling on this that my first instinctive choice of basic background color when drawing Lazuli is a dusky lavederish hue of evening blue. I think I've used it on almost all his pictures.
So on this one I decided to head straight for the opposite direction and go with the warm colors of sunset instead; using peach-golden highlights on his hair while still trying to maintain a feeling of dark midnight blue.
... and exactly what Rion is doing out of frame to induce that dreamy smile right there is anyone's guess. X)

I've been idly browsing your gallery - some pieces I liked more, some less, but this one is just drop dead gorgeous.
I love it~ the hair, the light, the emotion...
It also makes me want to go and nurse my pathetic drawing skills some more.

I dislike sounding overexcitable, so I have to say you had a point with this world of yours being a 'Special child' of some sort...too much tragic pasts, maybe. I kind of enjoyed reading about the characters all the same.

Hmmm....my first thoughts seeing this drawing had nothing sexual at all, actually. I thought he seemed rather pleased with himself, and was in an unusually good mood, tossing his hair back after a satisfying conquest. My second thoughts went along the lines of "Or...hmmm....I wonder what Rylerion is doing?" Then, of course, I read your description, and had to smile to myself.

As always, a lovely job. I will *always* admire how you do every single strand of hair. Not only would doing so drive me nuts, but so would the process that leads to this stunning picture. The blankness of everything when I begin drawing often confounds me, and makes me think that I am doing something wrong, even if later I decide it would have looked fine. I admire you greatly for your ability to seemingly not be so intimidated by it. The colors you've used lend a more cheerful cast to this drawing than the more somber ones of dusk.

Hee, even when I *am* feeling really creative, the blank canvas confounds me. I think the only time I can really draw anything very well is when I'm supposed to be paying attention to the professor. My notes are always full of fun (and sometimes very good) doodles. Usually, I can't reproduce them on blank paper, so they remain on my notes. Silly me XD.
What made you start drawing hair strand by strand? Do you use that same method for other parts of your drawing, doing only a small piece of the whole at a time? Maybe that last question didn't come out right, but what I mean is that you seem to focus more on the smaller parts, rather than the bigger ones. Does that make sense? Like with hair, where I see most artist drawing clumps of it together, rather than strands.

Well, I dunno - it depends. Sometimes I'm feeling creative, and then the process of creation is just fun, not daunting. But sometimes I'm just feeling uninspired, and the mere thought of having to spend time on a picture is really uncomfortable.
Still, drawing hair the way I do is simply beacuse I'm used to it. I've seen other artists using other styles and making it look so darn good, but I can't mimic that even when I try, so I stick to my strand-by-strand technique.

Whoa, what nice colors! Yeah, to me, you still kept the blue and darker colors, but you have the real nice gold, yellow and orange, too, awesome job!

The change of colors looks very nice. I noticed that Lazuli usually appears with blue tones, so this pic had me puzzled for a moment, but I think he looks equally good in the dusky colors. And that pose! ^____^ I love how the pose could be suggestive of any number of things, but exactly what's going on is left to the viewer.
