Description Here's something about perspective.

This is a project I did as a part of the employment's "Wellness day" initiative. After some workshops on mindfulness and attaining fulfillment and happiness in multiple aspects of one's life, we are sent to do a recreational activities for the afternoon. I chose something I've never done before. In this case... painting unbaked clay. It's amazing what a blank canvas can inspire you to do sometimes.

The flowers depicted, Lycoris radiata rubra is a staple in anime. Most people can recognize it on sight while struggling to come up with its name. (It's called " (red) spider lily" in English.) For those who are savvy enough to come up with a name, the word "higanbana" (彼岸花) usually come to mind along with fanciful legends about the boundaries between life and death. There are many legends surrounding this flower that usually have something to do with death, reincarnation and some sort of profound sadness. Indeed, that's what most people choose to use this flower to symbolize in their works. However, that is not the only - nor the first - name for this otherworldly flower. Originally described in the first book of the Lotus Sutra (Saddharma Puṇḍarīka Sūtra, literally "Sutra on the White Lotus of the Sublime Dharma". Written between 50-150 CE), the Manjusaka (曼珠沙華) was said to  rain down from heaven when the Buddha preaches or when other wonderful events occur. It is described as one of the "four kinds of flowers" of heaven. And it is the same flower.

I guess there's always two sides to the same thing. And it depends on where we stand and which perspective we choose to see the issue as it stands. The same flowers can stand for some inconsolable sadness or the most unrestrained joy. But it is us who make that decision.

Hello, hello!

No problems. This flower is a common sight in a lot of anime due to its association with death. You see it in famous anime like "Tokyo Ghoul", "Inuyasha" and "Hell Girl" (just to name a few). But it's got one of these really difficult to remember names...  In English they are called "red spider lilies." In Japanese, they are "higanbana". Or... if you want to tap into the poetic, religious side of things, they are called "Manjusaka".

Thanks for your very kind words! I really appreciate it!
The calligraphy could have been quite a bit better. I know you probably don't believe me, but I used to write a lot nicer!

Oh... I don't write Chinese very often anymore - I just never needed to do it. But like any skill, if you don't use it, you'll lose it.
My English writing skills is also going down-hill. But that's because I need to write a lot of charts over a very short period of time.

Hey, me, too! Nobody complains about my decline in penmanship more so than me!
I just need to take the time to actually sit down and write, that's all. It's just too bad that I don't have time for... well, most anything. And that aggrieves me.

If that's the case? Complain away!
Let's complain together!!!

The thing is, I used to write with fountain pens. And I think I write better with a good fountain. It's too bad that most ink runs and it's hard to get good ink where I live. So it's a bit of an uphill battle. But I try as much as I can. That's why I wrote the "Tea with Liam" series with a dip pen. I just need to get back in the game!

     Let's complain together!

I started writing with fountain pens when I was in high school. My parents were taught how to write with fountain pens at about that age when they were younger, too. So they thought it was a good idea. And hey, I just fell head over heels over the fountains. I've looked into ordering ink on-line. But for a long time I was on the move between job posts, so I was never able to have a "permanent" address to have things mailed to me. I hope that things will get better soon, though.

Nah, I'm not "Senpai"... I'm just old and old-schooled!

Ohhh thats cool my parents were more hands on kind of ppl than literature people. Well im the only one in my family that likes to pick up a book :'D while the rest of them, sisters too. Seem to have a drive for hard labor. Although i can get behind it I perfer to sit down and draw, write, and read.
So its interesting your parents taught you such a thing.
Ah i see, maybe one day u will :3 and than u can order stuff.

Old school senpai is best senpai

From what they are telling me, learning how to write with a fountain pen was something they learned in high school - and everybody had to do it. English was a mandatory course that everybody had to do and they taught "how to write English" with fountain pens. But nothing wrong with being the only bookish type of person at home. My brother likes to remind me that I seem to be the only person in the family who has any artistic talent. (I don't agree with him, though. I don't think I've got any talent...

But hey, it's all good. I am glad that my folks thought my interest in fountain pens aren't awful.
I have ink for dip pens left over. They will last for a while until I can order the right ones!

... is that right?

pukkuie In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2017-09-24 00:20:23 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow. That's interesting o.o never thought it be mandatory .

Mm.

Hey hey ur brother is right you are very artistic,I agree with him! Ah, I think you do!

Oh that's good! XD maybe thought u were outta ink

XD it is right!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to pukkuie [2017-09-24 04:37:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh, yeah... a lot of things used to be mandatory, but they aren't so strict any more. Back in the past, doctors had to learn Greek and Latin, too. We don't need to do that anymore. But I think it's a shame. I know a lot of people think it's a waste of time, but they are actually helpful things!

... Well, my brother is a little too-kind. If I have talent, then the other folks in my family also have talent. I have two cousins who are architects. I think that's a lot of talent!

I was out of fountain pen ink. But I am OK with dip pen ink. Fountain pen is a lot easier to use, though.

Well... I don't have to name him. He has a name!
www.goodsmile.info/en/product/…

If you don't count the icicles on his head-dress, he's about 10cm tall. That's great, because it's nice to have a comparison to let people know how big the project / building is. A number of my paper-crafting friends were doing the same thing, so they got me into this "trend". I am really glad, though. Because he's down-right adorable!

Besides, his "adult" version looks pretty good, too!  farm9.static.flickr.com/8884/2…  pm1.narvii.com/6212/f33b1efa89…

The one with the llama is Melissa Scarlet. And she's made completely out of paper!
The person who made her is the person who introduced me to paper-crafting. Without them, I wouldn't be building tiny castles!

It took me a lot of decision to make some parts red and some parts white. The bottom of the plate and the cup are both red. And the inside of the cup is red. But the biggest decision I had to make was the handle. I think it does look better red. And I am really glad to hear that you agree!

Who can decide what is good or what is not good on photography. We are school boys anymore. This website is for sharing our idea and our photographs and discuss on them...

Well... I think a lot of people have an innate understanding of what they find aesthetically pleasing. After all, you don't have to be a great chef to know if one person is a better cook than the other one, right? But you are absolutely correct - we are here to share our ideas and our photographs. I am hoping to learn from those whom I think have more skills than I do. And hopefully one day I will learn to be satisfied with what I have captured on film.

To live is to learn, after all.

To live is a process of learning I am totally agree...
...
And totally agree about we are learning many things from each other here on DA. That's why I did not delete my early photos. From time to time I am visiting them to see if I am improved or not. I am thinking that I am still so far away from a skilful photographer but I can plan ( or let me say I can imagine ) to capture some photographs as soon as I saw the object or composition. That's an earning maybe
Please have a nice day my good friend. And wish you nice weekend

It's St. Patrick's day here (where a lot of Roman Catholics live.) So Happy St. Patrick's Day to you, too!

I left some of my early photographs on DA, too. But I keep most of my new photographs off-line. I like taking photographs to help me remember the places I have been and the beauty of nature. I usually do not have any people in my photographs at all. But I know there are a lot better photographers here. So I wan to learn more about photography first before I try to put my new pictures here. Besides... I have a lot of things to share! Too many!
