Description This tiny comic was more of a small self-indulgent practice than a true attempt at anything either serious or really comedic, this time! XD

While having a lot to do on my hands and far too few time, I use all my small free moments to practice drawing, and planting sketches of what will later become seriously detailed works (whether it's comics, loose art or whatever)

In this case, it all started with that first, bizarre picture at the beggining of the strip...I had been wanting to try and capture the extremely weird and complex sternal bones the original sculpt for Chamberlin SkekSil had (as seen on a behind-the-scenes picture)

Seeing those bizarrely shaped portrusions, tiny spiked ridges and shapes, I knew I had to draw "whatever that thing on his sternum was!"

And so I did...though for some odd reason it didn't stop there, but ende up having a close-shot of SkekLa's quill stroking the last traces of the drawing itself, which became encased in a parchment sheet...a drawing within a drawing...and then, the thing took a life of it's own, basically forcing me to make a tiny three-pannel comic out of it! XD It ended up featuring a Chamberlain who is really surprised of the fangirly glee the portrait of his sternum causes to the obsessive, awkward Illustrator...

XD More of a strange-cute thing than a truly funny one!

I hope you'll enjoy the thing, anyways, and promise to be back soon enough  with some new ASK and Brotherhood page!...and some Knotworks. AND loose drawings.
Oh goodness, so much to do! XD

Make me wonder if "Beak Jobs' are a thing with the Skeksis like nose jobs are for humans. I could see the Ornamentalist going in for one

SkekLa In reply to grazatt [2016-10-27 14:36:29 +0000 UTC]

He would definitely go in for one!...If only SkekTek wouldn't probably destroy his face instead of embellishing him... O.O

Actually...IF what SkekTek has right THERE at the left side of his beak and muzzle
www.darkcrystal.com/site_image…
were a bone-expanding apppliance and not possibly a holding devise (perhaps he broke his face at some point?) he could be considered to be "experimenting with that" maybe...
Perhaps he applied those to his face because he wanted a longer beak?...
who could tell?

Thanks a whole lot, Lasz! ^^
I had to give a try at those crazily shaped sternal bones!
They're just so bizarre and complex that not addressing them in a drawing would be impossible to me!
I'm glad you liked this one!

Once again you capture the feelings of different materials so brilliantly well! The metal, the cloth, hair, skin, it all has such intricate textures that make it seem almost photographic!
And, are you using a different colouring technique? The shading seems softy and more constrasting that usual, I love it! ^^

SkekLa In reply to ZureLazuli [2016-09-08 13:35:51 +0000 UTC]

AW, Do you think so?
THANK YOU!!!!
I really try!!!

i strive with textures EVERY SINGLE TIME...And I always doubt I "nailed them" XD

Yes, kind of: i this one I tried with inking only the thickest lines and the contours, and then shading, texturing and drawing the thnner details with a mechanic pencil!
It was a lot of fun and the resuts are smooth, I truly liked them...I might keep this technique for future Asks!
I'm so glad you like the results f this pencil+ink stuff too ^^

Trust me, you get textures down perfectly
Just look at skekLa's sleeves! So detailed and light-looking, or the wispy-lightness of the quill compared to the metal of the Illustrator's claw! They're perfect!

SkekLa In reply to ZureLazuli [2016-09-09 13:42:49 +0000 UTC]

You think so??
I didn't think I had done it too well! To know you find the different soidities and textures discernible is amazing!!!!
THANKS for letting me know I'm doing fine at that! It's one of my major stress points: to get the textures and such right!

This made me laugh good work SkekLa, She does adore Sil doesn't she? is he intentionally posing for her or is it just coincidence that he happens to be in rags?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SkekLa In reply to charmsp1 [2016-09-08 13:41:01 +0000 UTC]

Hehehe thanks to you, Charm! ^^
Indeed, SkekLa just adores the Chamberlain to the stratosphere and over yonder! XD
He was especifically asked to pose for that i only his iner shirt (which is already so worn that it falls to pieces, LOL) Though I reckon he might be nervous of being seen wit "not enough clothing" by any others if the happned to pass by the Library!...Poor Sil...he has to really adore SkekLa, too, to allow her make him stay in rags and posing for that bizarre drawing for who knows how long! XD

They are so cute together, I Just died, melted and went to skeksis heaven
La is indeed fangirling over Sil but which mate not? I can imagine all skeksis adoring their mate's sternum, to no limit, such rigid bones are simply BEAUTIFUL!
I agree in that case with SkekLa ^^
Beautiful lines at the "drawing within drawing" and the both skeksis' faces are simply TOO ADORABLE!!
You are mistress of expressions and you know that I think so since beginning!

BRILLIANT AND CUTE!!!

SkekLa In reply to ArlenFram [2016-09-08 13:48:34 +0000 UTC]

AWWW HAHAHA thanks so much, Kel!!

Indeed La both finds truly fascinating the shapes Sil's sternum has , but definitely also uses them as excuse to fangirl giddily around him XD

HAHAH thanks again! I'm so glad you like the slightly different technique I used in this one!
Hihi expressions...where would I be without them? ^^

THANKS OH SO VERY MUCH!!! I'm so glad you like it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SkekLa In reply to Sunstar-Of-The-North [2016-09-08 13:51:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for liking it! ^^
Sil's chest didn't take too long actually: I think it was a bunch of minutes to have that small frame done...maybe half n hour?...but then I went crazy and transformed it into a small scene with SkekLa's quill meddling in...and ended up making the comic..which took (I can only guess, because I draw by whiles, every moment I can stop working fr a minute and grab the drawings instead!) ...it may have taken roughly some 2 hours to make the whole comic, with inking, shading and details...

This is why your art is so awesome. You take such great care in every single one. Oh I almost forgot to mention my friend really liked your drawing style! She said it reminded her of the illustrations in Lewis Carrol's 'Alice Through the Looking Glass'.

indeed I take great care into each frame!
OH MY, Did your friend think my illustrations are simmilar to the style of the ancient lithographies for Alice's old editions????
THAT is a huge compliment, those were incredible!
THANK YOU...And please thank your friend from me, please! ^^
