History:

Do you believe in second chances?

What would you give to get a second chance at life?

Samantha was born in 1959, the world was different back then, but my memory from her early days are foggy at best and missing at worst. The things I do remember that she was a junkie. It was pretty bad too. I remember sleeping in an abandoned factory and the face of her shit bag drug dealer boyfriend. I remember the sting of needles and the burn of chemicals. The terrible and wonderful loss of her senses and feelings, of time and worries. I don't remember how Samantha died I just remember the silence the nothing. Then I remember the pain. I woke up once during the whole ordeal, I think they underestimated how much anesthetic would be needed for Samantha because I remember waking up and the pain was overwhelming. Can you imagine the feeling of cold air against the bone of your skull? Did you know that you do not have pain receptors within your brain? I would have screamed if I had lungs at that point.

Years later, I finally opened my eyes for the first time. I was in a pod, a coffin with a window, and I was cold. It took me days to remember how arms work, and it felt like years to break out of the pod and finally see the world beyond. There were hundreds of pods, it looked like some sort of experiment. My neighbor, a pile of bones, had a label on the window, EVE VI. I ran as fast as my legs could move, I climbed as hard as my arms would lift, and eventually I crawled. I crawled out of a vent shaft in the middle of the desert and walked toward the first group of lights I saw. A few more years passed, I began to become more coherent. I understood the world more, I also understood I was not like others. It wasn't all bad, as it turned out, I was strangely suited to this new time. Maybe it was the way my brain was wired, but it didn't take long to adapt to modern technology. I could integrate with it directly. I could connect directly to the internet. The information came to me as easily as picking a book up off the shelf, and as I began to gather things, secret things, governmental blacklisted things, my influence grew. That's when I learned that knowledge is power. I took a moniker, they called me Index, and I would sell secrets. Good, bad, I didn't care, it gave me a purpose, and made me rich. Sometime later, using my connections and abilities, I would finally start piecing together what happened with my creation, much like I was pieced together. Piece by piece, scrap by scrap. I was a failed government experiment, trying to recreate the work of a centuries dead scientist, to make lighting strike twice (pun intended). It was mothballed with a large stack of secret government experiments after the cold war was over. I was left to rot.

Unsatisfied, I dug deeper, deeper into the secrets of what I am, and how I came to be. I discovered Victor Frankenstein, and I slowly began to uncover the magical and mystical, and as I did I found even deeper secrets. Secrets even more powerful than the ones I got paid for and I hoarded them. Of course, I should have known that if you start peering into the abyss, it starts peering back. Gathering and storing all that magical information only made me a bigger target; but that only made me gather more it more zealously; it was an addiction. A character defect I can still blame Samantha for. Soon I received a visit from my predecessor, the one and only Frankenstein monster. See while I was pulling knowledge of magic into myself, I started unraveling a rather intricate web. See magic isn't just information you can write in a book, once that book gets enough spells or incantations written in it, that book becomes a vessel of magic. Books with a lot of magical power, they get called a Grimore. He explained that I had become a Grimore with my abilities, and not just any Grimore, probably one of the most powerful Grimoires to ever exist. So he gave me a choice, go with him to be locked away in a sanctum somewhere like the living book I was, or stay and become some trophy or item to be used by a not so nice magic-user. The options weren't great.

A second chance at life made me more than the sum of my parts. Was the life of countless people worth giving Samantha a second chance? Am I bound by the sins of Samantha? What Am I?

Theme Song(s): Rx (Medicate) - THEORY
Fun facts:

  • Eve doesn't really feel shame and is extremely lazy. It's not uncommon for her to wear the same clothes over and over or not wear clothes at all.
  • Eve can't really get high or drunk in any meaningful capacity. Its uncertain if its a leftover side effect from her construction or just Samantha's high tolerance.
  • The project that created Eve was said to have 25 EVE subjects and 25 ADAM subjects. It's unclear if anymore survived.
  • Frankenstein and Lady Frankenstein have invited Eve to come live with them on more than one occasion. She has denied this.

Memorable Quote(s):

  • “I know you, I've seen your nudes, they were hot.”
  • “If you don't have coke, vodka, or a pizza; I'm not in the mood."

“ I saw the hideous phantasm of a man stretched out, and then, on the working of some powerful engine, show signs of life and stir with an uneasy, half-vital motion.” -Mary Shelley
