History:
As the second daughter of La Calavera, Sofia was never going to inherit the powers that her mother held. While she, and her mother, knew this to be true; when Maria refused to take her mother's teachings and left with her father Sofia began training to be her mother's successor nevertheless. While her mother wasn't cruel, it was easy to say her training looked to be. Sofia has many terrible experiences under the tutelage of her mother, but it proved to be effective in hardening the young girl against the terrifying, dangerous, and often deadly monsters that plague the underworld. A few years later and Sofia began to become disillusioned with her mother. She felt her mother’s stance on the dead was soft, and although she often took a harder line than Maria would eventually, Sofia felt the dead were not worthy of salvation if they remained on the mortal plane. So she left her mother at the age of 13 and set out to fight the darkness alone using the tactics her mother taught her.

Her not inconsiderable skills and knowledge put her in the path of a clan of monster hunters known as the Dawn-Breakers. They had hunted the supernatural for generations and they were eager to bring Sofia into their group, Sofia could not refuse their resources and pedigree. After a few years, Sofia quickly rose through the ranks and received the title of “Shroud.” Her connections within the Dawn-breakers extended to the Daughters of Alvar, dragon slayers, which Sofia became close and shared a rivalry with. It was during this time as a lead hunter that she learned that her mother had died, meaning Maria had finally become La Calavera and Sofia had not received the power. Driven by jealousy, and self loathing for not being with her mother when she died, Sofia defected from the Dawn-breakers and began to pursue Maria in the misguided hope that she could prove to Santa Muerte that she was truly worthy of the power.

Maria and Sofia would battle from time to time; Sofia was a superior tactician and combatant, but Maria had the power of La Calavera, and could easily utilize the spirits at her command to defeat her younger sister. Until the day they both individually learned of a villain known as Siphon, who could steal the souls from individuals and store them in jars. The reason Siphon peaked the sister's interests is because Siphon claimed they had in their possession the soul of a La Calavera and intended on selling it. Both showed up intent on freeing who they assumed was their mother and after teaming up to defeat Siphon, Maria and Sofia released the soul which turned out to be their grandmother. She told them the full extent of the La Calavera power, that the service to Santa Muerte didn’t end after death, that La Calavera was also a lock to the door of Xibalba. Their great grandmother had held the door for longer than she should have and even with all her power, Mictlantecuhtli had managed to begin to crack the door. Their grandmother explained that Sofia and Maria’s mother, her daughter, was doing everything she could to hold the gates now, but even with her grandmother going to help now she wasn’t sure if they would be able to stop Mictlantecuhtli on their own. Maria looked at Sofia. She could try and make the difference, but Maria couldn’t have children there was no one to inherit the power. Sofia tried to argue the world needs La Calavera, but Maria argues that she was just as capable of being La Calavera as she. They made a pact, a promise, and Sofia helped Maria join their mother in the lands of the dead.

Sofia would arrive at the Solomon homestead shortly after a broken woman. She had promised Maria to seek down those who would help her continue as La Calavera and that is exactly what she did. There she was welcomed by Quincy and placed under the mentorship of Kieran, she reconnected with Sigrid, the youngest member of the Daughters of Alvar who had also defected some time before. She would take up the mantle of La Calavera again and worked hard to temper her anger and instincts.
