Description
This is a little bit of a crop from one of the illustrations I did at work not too long ago. My favorite part is the little mushrooms in the corner, really, but overall it was fun to work with the atmospheric perspective to pull off that mint green field in the distance. Hope you enjoy! Fun fact: I didn't know what a dryad was before I started this illustration. : P

I like the balance of colours and lighting, they all add to the intimate atmosphere. Yes the musrooms in the corner are a wonderful addition.

All too often designs forΒ fey like dryads, naiads and oreads simply appear as humans with pointy ears or an ethereal glow, I much prefer designs likeΒ thisΒ where they are humanoid without appearing too human and have something of their elemental character showing.

That was definitely the most interesting part about the mythology to me, the fact that they can be essentially part tree. Lots of fun imagery to explore there.

Ahh yes, I sometimes try to ccompress the figure in strange ways to see if I can make them look convincing even though they're distorted like the old masters did, but alas, I am not a master.
