Mars, with the Isidis Sea and Mount Elysium visible, depicted in the year 2617 AD. 400 years have passed since the planet's transformation into an Earth-like world, and 250 years have passed since the solar system's decent into the Dark Age. The plains and forests surrounding Elysium are presently divided into dozens of competing kingdoms and city-states. On the Sytris Major Plateau, one such kingdom jealously guards access to one of the planet's space elevators, where high above, the Spacefaring Company remains the last organisation capable of sustaining travel between the planets. It is rumored that the Spacefaring Company has lost their ability to maintain the few remaining vessels built during the Age of Caesars, after their most esteemed ship, one of the largest repositories of Human knowledge and technology, was destroyed during a internal feud. In less than a century, Mankinds ability to travel between the planets may be lost if nothing is done, but the Spacefaring Company remains untouchable by the bickering kingdoms far below.
