Description Hawker Hound Mk4B serial N1802 IWM Duxford photographed June 14th 2018 just after the completion of a full lift generator field coil replacement. One of her replaced spools can be seen in its handling caddy in the foreground.

Brooklands  built Hawker (Hunting) Hound Mk4 Serial Number N1802 was initially a MK4A Hound and  was taken on charge April 4th 1940. She spent two months with 124 Sqd based in  Drem before moving south to Northolt where she suffered minor damage in a landing accident.

N1802, as per all Hounds of the period, was built with the capability of being retrofitted with the SBD-146/58 Aero Electric Field Coil spool when they became available. This particular development of the spool was still under development during the early Hound MK4 production period but the “58 Spool” was to be a quantum leap in Field generation technology and would be adopted globally within the RAF as it became available in early 1940.

Retrofitted with the new spools and her minor damage fixed, N1802 was re designated Hunting Hound M4B and delivered to 111 Squadron at Croydon where she accounted for 5 confirmed kills and several probables  during the Battle of Britain. She was quite severely damaged in March of the following year and then  spent most of the remaining war years with various training squadrons until re designation as an instructural airframe. However, she was chosen as a gate guardian for Northolt and was shipped there but was left at the aisle so to speak because somebody in a high position decided that they would like a Supermarine Spectre as the base guardian rather than a Hound.

She spent 16 years crated at Northolt and another 10 or so at various locations before ending up at the Strathallan collection where the intention was to get her airworthy once more. However, the Strathallan collection failed as a going concerned  but the fate of N1802 was decided by the Old Flying Machine Company who still own and fly her on a regular basis.

Only three Hawker Hounds remain airworthy in the UK today:  Shuttleworths unique MK1, TFC’s MK4D and  N1802 which, in the actual livery she wore in during the summer of 1940 and most of her original power unit equipment, makes her the most historically authentic  preserved aircraft in Britain.

The Hawker Hound, Field Coil Spool and its caddy  was modelled in modo and everything was slapped together in Photoshop.
The Original background for this image was photographed by me at Duxford in 2013 and is here:

Never heard of a Hurri-short.

It is in actual fact a load of made up nonsense that I get into from time to time based on my diesel punk alternative universe where lift is not generated by aerodynamic surfaces.

Perhaps I should go out the house more

I was just cracking a joke, I can tell that's a Hawker Hurricane, and making a joke about the short wingspan

I'm not that big of an ass. People are entitled to make their own art. Im friends with a guy who did some art like this, blended a Spitfire with EE Lightning, lol. Looked cool

I did several renders to try and get the light close on the Hound before going over to PS for comp.
I should have held out a bit longer and done some more just to get that rear skin better than it is.

One day I will crack it

Is it a sign of my state of mind that "freshly doped and stretched" made me snigger

Then I shall start with the dope and ease into the stretching once I have fed the Unicorn.

The unicorn could also be a pub. I know a few Unicorns.

A pub...........mmmmm. Now this doesn't often happen but I could do a cold beer right now

yereverluvinuncleber In reply to Small-Brown-Dog [2018-07-01 21:11:13 +0000 UTC]

You don't go for a beer in pubs, one of my main aims in life is to find the 'perfect pub'. I cycle the lanes of Norfolk in vain searching for same (I found some quite good ones though).

How long have you been on your quest to find Pub Nirvana ?
As I am obviously without the knowledge and an obvious heathen, what should I be doing in a Pub ?

yereverluvinuncleber In reply to Small-Brown-Dog [2018-07-02 19:15:33 +0000 UTC]

A good English country pub can be heaven on earth. I have lived in countries where they have no equivalent. A pint of Brakspears in the Summer, with a Stilton ploughmans on the table, a packet of cheese and onion open alongside, sat outside in the beer garden of a pub in the Stonor valley, near Henley, with a pretty girl sitting alongside and your sports car cooling in the car park.

For me, that is close to heaven.

I've been there and like your eternal quest for a little bit of youth, I just want to find that pub again...

That exhaust pinging sound. Aaaahh.

The girls I took out seldom wore perfume. They were healthy, tall, broad-shouldered sporty types with all the girlie bits but let's us say they never wore pink, nor perfume, not that sort of girl. A tall Californian redhead comes to mind, another tall, long-haired cool and calculating English brunette and a very slim but busty blonde hippy chick. Each would have fitted that scene well enough, not at the same time though.

You could have tried for "all at the same time" in different locations if that Sports car was really really fast ... and you almost as fast

yereverluvinuncleber In reply to Small-Brown-Dog [2018-07-03 21:22:27 +0000 UTC]

It is you.

I cleaned one half of the BSA's engine with a wire brush, cooked pan-fried chicken and noodles, slept in the garden with the cat in the dying rays of the sun for an hour, played with my old analogue camera, did usual household chores and parental care and set up some scaffolding to allow me to paint the greenhouse roof, so not a bad day.

NEVER with a dog, a pussy must purr.

Stuff done, even if bitten off in small chunks leads to some satisfaction at the end of the day.
