Description Also known as My First Commission.

My friend Sarah commissioned me to do a group shot of the main cast of her novel-in-progress, Dangerous People. She's currently pulling a Walden's Pond off in a cabin for a couple of weeks, but she's been so pleased with all the status scans I've sent her that I don't think she'd mind me posting this before she gets back. I'm really happy with it myself!

From left to right:

Cay (Caleb): Pretty boy, street-trash, opportunist.

Lina: Ex-military, super efficient, secret maternal streak.

Sadie: Psychopath.

James: Svengali, evil mastermind, killer cheekbones.

I bluepenciled the crap out of this in my sketchbook and inked it digitally. I've been DYING to do that suit-silhouette for a while, and I'm very pleased with the result. I love Cay's separatist posture, Lina's watchful eyes and SADIE'S HAIR, which turned out spectacularly. I have absolutely no problems with those three.

James was a bit of a bitch. He has kind of a high, combed-back hairline anyway, but it was hard not to make his forehead look huge. And his hand might be a smidge small. But my happiness with the other three far outweighs my minor quibbles with James. And Sarah loved it to little pieces, so I have no complaints!

I'm just shy of loving you.

Aside, I love it when there's a high graphic feel to otherwise very detailed characters. You managed to show a detailed form in your silhouettes and facial emotions while still maintaining a very simple... set of suits.

... you rock.

^__^ Thank you for saying so. I'm silly for days after some experimental turns out well! I don't want to beat this style into the ground, but I can definitely see returning to it again in the future.

(and thank you for the fave!)

You best be returning the style. It's one of my favorite styles and is rarely pulled off well. Thanks!

I love how Sadie stands out, how there's these three very tough looking suited people, then a little girl in a dress. The splash of colour on her dress also helps a lot in making her stand out. It's also really neat that although they're silhouettes, but they aren't just blobs. They still have definable bodies. I love the details on Sadie's shoes.

And I can't find ANYTHING to crit on this. (other than the hand, but if you hadn't have mentioned it I wouldn't have noticed it anyways)

Oh man, the shoes took an entire night in and of themselves! Next time I draw sneakers, I'm doing it on the actual sketchpad before attempting digital ink.

Thanks for the detailed comment ^^ They always make me bubbly.

ouch, you drew that all on digital ink? All those details? x_x; I am amazed.

You're very welcome, and I'm glad.

Sadie: psychopath
That made me laugh for like, five minutes. But this is really good. I like the contrast between the dress and all the black suits.

Damn that's good. I think you did a fine job with James. The hand does look just a smidge small, but it's easily ignorable and only noticeable if you're looking for problems. All in all, I am ever more jealous of your mad skillz! Nice work!
