Description I recently decided to overhaul four years' of comic archives. This also means updating character designs, of which this is the first of many.

If you've looked around my gallery you've seen pictures of a girl with blue hair and purple eyes. That would be Linette St. Paul. Well, I decided it was time to kick that particular anime-influence to the curb, because oh-so-unique hair and eyes have now become the trademark of marysues everywhere. If I were ever to try and novelize this story, I'd be in for a rude reaction. Besides, I think she makes a better looking blonde (not to mention a total badass) anyway.

SO MUCH CREDIT goes to for this stock image. I loved the attitude there, although I think I dimmed down the sass and replaced it with...contempt? Amusement? A little bit of both? Lynn can be so superior sometimes.

You did a great job translating the reference and making it your own. I like the subtle details on the shirt.

Thank you! It means a lot to hear that, as I'm worried about using references as a crutch.

I can understand the concern, but most all pros use reference, from traditional painting to animation. Don't worry about it.

FANTASTIC! Wow-ee! The coloring is so simple but totally spot on and the pose is perefct and the expression is so glamorous but the guns are so badass and it's all just WOOOO!

As you can tell, I'm a mite overwhelmed. Lovely, lovely work.

Ah, well, true artwork does that to me.

I'm surprised I never saw this till now. Great work, has a metal gear esque style with the line and color... and the pose and proportions are very strong. Good work

Now you're making me wish I'd gotten to play the Metal Gear games...

Credit for the proportions and pose go to the stock artist, but I'm glad you think I adapted them well! ^_^

I'll find you some art for it later. It is very loose and fluid... yet has a very real feel to it cause the coloring keeps lighting in mind. Gorgeous, much like your own work.

Oh! I see! Sorry, your gallery just seemed to be made up mostly of photographs!

That's why I hate inking. It seems to kill some of the charm and life of pencil sketches. I'm trying to figure out ways around actually having to pick up a pen...

Nick-Logic In reply to Snicks [2006-07-10 04:58:47 +0000 UTC]

you may be better off going to my website cause i can't post alot of it here. [link]

You'll get a better sense of what i do, think of photography as just a hobby.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snicks In reply to Nick-Logic [2006-07-12 05:49:19 +0000 UTC]

It always makes me laugh when people are ridiculously good at something they only consider a hobby ^^ But I laugh because it's cool that they can just enjoy something they're skilled at, instead of being pressured by careers or editors.

Hmm, the breakdancing animation is still my favorite, but it's rivaled by DJ Doc Ock. The arms were so well done and the concept was a lot of fun (although I kept thinking "no, the arms would scratch the records!").

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nick-Logic In reply to Snicks [2006-07-12 14:07:29 +0000 UTC]

haha, i guess i like the DJ Doc Ock mainly cause it was done in 3 weeks which wasn't alot of time for it. We were happy with it, fun little shin-dig.

And wow... thanks for the compliment... that's really great of you to say. And yes, I like it cause it is related to nothing but my enjoyment. No work deadlines, no pressure... just whenever i feel like it. Animation is my passion, but it is also my job, so I have a need to get away from it now and then so i can see clearly.

Got any plans to take over the world with your talent?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snicks In reply to Nick-Logic [2006-07-12 23:11:15 +0000 UTC]

Nope, as I'm just playing around with drawing myself ^^ I'm actually an English major with a concentration in creative and public writing. As much as I love to draw, it frustrates me too much to even THINK of doing it for a living.

It's pretty awesome to have the ability to illustrate the stories and proposals I come up with, though. I feel bad for writers who have to commission others to do it for them, since nothing anybody else does ever quite matches up with what you see in your head.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nick-Logic In reply to Snicks [2006-07-13 01:51:19 +0000 UTC]

agreed. Stories really have a specific feel from the author that an artist may, or may not, get across.

I'd like to read some of your work later, if you don't mind.

Snicks In reply to Nick-Logic [2006-07-13 19:50:42 +0000 UTC]

Hah, posting writing on DA, there's a thought! I'm actually more anxious about people seeing that than my sketches. But maybe if I posted one with an illustration...There are just so many writers with original characters on DA that it feels trite to flash your own!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nick-Logic In reply to Snicks [2006-07-14 01:40:48 +0000 UTC]

yes, people are drawn in by "the pretty pictures" and that can lead a person to really enjoying some good literature. My ex did a few good pieces of writing, usually accompanied by her art. Good stuff.
