Species : Mist Barrier Bell Spirit, a type of Guardian Spirit.
He takes on the form of a nekomimi though his true shape is that of a bell.

Rin is the type of person driven by emotion -- and he has no problem letting you know exactly which emotion is driving him at any current moment. He’s about as straight-forward as they come, for better or for worse. But at least there is no secrets with him and though many have described him as childish and a straight-up brat, he is a very genuine person who can be trusted where it matters. He in turn is trusting of other people and non-judgemental. Rin is rather stubborn, quite self-centered, and likes getting his way; but despite this, he will go out of his way to help people (even if he playfully complains the entire time). Being a barrier spirit, he has a strong desire to protect people and the things that are important to them. He also likes to try and make people smile. With his infectious smile and playful, energetic nature, he usually succeeds. His playful nature does border a bit on the impish side and he likes to tease people. Rin is rather short-tempered (especially if you look down on him because he looks like a kid) but he gets over things just as quickly as things set him off. History :
Running low on power, Rin was near disappearing when his bell from which within he slept was brought to Deviantart and bought by a powerful magician and his beloved seamstress wife. They hung his bell from above the gate to their hat and tailor shop which doubled as their home. The loving atmosphere of the home and the presence of the strong magic helped Rin to recover and before long he was once more aware and awake from within his bell where he could watch over the family; however, at this point, he was still to weak to take on his spirit form or use his abilities.
Disaster struck a few years after Rin was hung from the gate and, while on an outing, the wife and son died in an accident involving magic. Grief stricten, the man swore off ever using magic again and dedicated himself to running the shop that his wife had so lovingly taken care of. Not long after, the shop was attacked and the man fought back desperately, preferring to face death than to loss what he had left of his family. Responding to the man’s strong desire, Rin was able to put up a mist barrier, allowing the man chase away the attackers.
The next morning, the man found Rin sleeping inside the shop garden by the gate. Upon realizing the boy was in an insolid state and recognizing the bell on his coat, the man realized that Rin was the guardian spirit that had helped him the night before. When Rin awoke, he offered to let Rin live with him, which he accepted. Seeing as Rin was still weak and not even able to create another barrier, the man encouraged Rin to join the local guild in order to build his power back up.

Skill : “Mist Shifting”
Rin can quickly shift between a mist form and a solid form or any range in between. His ability also allows him to shift small items that he is holding or is on his person, such as clothes.

Benefits
In a relaxed state, Rin is in between a solid and mist state: he looks solid but if you go to touch him, you’ll quickly find out he is made of nothing but mist. Such a form allows him to avoid taking physical injury. His lack of density in a partial mist or full mist form allows him to float if he so desires. By completely turning into mist, Rin becomes difficult to see and can move through any space that is not airtight.
Limitations and Weaknesses
In order to handle physical items, Rin needs to turn to a solid or nearly solid state. Maintaining a solid state for any length of time requires that he eat food.
Extreme temperatures affect how well he can shift: the extreme cold makes it hard to shift into a mist while extreme heat makes it hard to take on a solid form. When in a mist form, wind or strong water currents can make it difficult to gather himself back together into a solid form. He is also not immune to many magic attacks even in his mist form. Lightning attacks in particular can hit him regardless of form.

Extra :
~ Rin’s “true form” is that of a bell. Due to the bell being magic, time will not tarnish it and it is unusually durable, but it can still be damaged. As the bell is his “true” body, any damage it takes will hurt Rin. Destroying it will kill Rin. If anyone were to get his bell, they could control him. For these reasons, Rin is extremely protective of his bell and will always keep it close to him.
~ The “paw gloves” on his main coat have built-in metal claws that can be extended and retracted
~ Rin is astraphobic: in other words, he is terrified of lightning and thunder. Hearing or seeing it can leave him petrified and, if someone is nearby, he becomes excessively clingy to them.
~ Rin has been known to tease people by stealing bites of your food, so watch your plates
~ Is often humming or singing quietly to himself. It often sounds like a quietly ringing bell...
~ His pockets always have a bunch of different random items in his pockets, including bouncy balls, string, snacks, potions, paper, etc.
~ Collects bells. Many are decoratively hung around the garden behind the tailor and hat shop where he lives.
~ The anklet on his foot is a gift from the girl for whom he turned into a cat/nekomimi for (see extended history)
~ Rin is keenly aware of other people's desire to protect and what it is that they desire to protect. If the emotion is strong enough, Rin can use that emotional energy as a power source to help protect that beloved item/ person should they fall into danger.
