Why...why must painting fur take so long?! X3

Nah...well, I like how this is coming so far. I haven't worked on this in a while. Want to finish up as much of my commissions as possible before I go back to work on this. This is basically where I left off on it weeks ago.

Feel free to leave a critique. It's not finished, but the face is really where you can critique this. I'd rather have them when I'm not finished it. I'd hate to have to go back and work on it more when I think I'm finished with it...

Nice details on the fur so far. :3 I look forward to seeing this finished. I think the only thing I would suggest is some more dramatic lighting. Perhaps go over with a light overlay layer?

I'm from the DCTP forum. Although the people on there don't know me on DA. ;_;

Thanks! I haven't worked on this picture in such a while.

Yeah the lighting can stand to be more dramatic. I'll work on that whenever I work on this picture again.

Nice lighting, the fur is going to take forever... Will there be a background?

SombraStudio In reply to soft-sound [2010-07-11 01:28:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it is. x3

And it's gonna have one of those standard portrait-esque backgrounds. Like they have in portrait photos of people.

whoa! You hit the fur texture dead on! I mean I really love how well you handled the directional contours of it too I would love to see this finished! Keep up the great work

SombraStudio In reply to Quelfabulous [2009-09-29 04:25:35 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Watching during her ustream sessions really helped me get a handle on how I could make fur look better. And I think this is one of my first pictures where I've really paid attention to how fur moves around the face.

I hope to finish it soon...that is if my wrist doesn't decide to die on me first.

Welcome

......WTF, i use Photoshop CS3 and i never can draw this..
You are GREAT ^^

SombraStudio In reply to Swinty [2009-09-24 14:49:30 +0000 UTC]

Don't say never! It's never the tool that makes anything good but the time taken to really learn and get used to it and it's potential. You should see my first attempt at realism on Photoshop CS... Really, drawing fur is just a matter of finding good refs, practice, and butt load of patience (which I don't have hence why it's taking so long to finish this). Tutorials help too. :3

I downloaded a set of brushes from `adonihs about a month ago. There's a really cool "fur" brush that he made, which just might save you a headache or two. But I don't know for sure. It wouldn't hurt to try it out, anyway.

So far, it looks really amazing though. You have far more patience than I ever would.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SombraStudio In reply to Elandain [2009-08-19 21:15:43 +0000 UTC]

I think I have tried downloading his brush set. I'd really love to try it out. Unfortunately not too many brush downloads work for me on Photoshop Elements... I'll just have to wait until I get CS or any of the other ones to test them out. But a fur brush would definitely save me a headache...and hand cramps.

And thanks! :3 I don't know about having more patience though...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Elandain In reply to SombraStudio [2009-08-20 01:17:32 +0000 UTC]

They won't work with PS Elements? That sucks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SombraStudio In reply to Elandain [2009-08-20 02:04:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...there's very few brushes that I've found that work on Elements. I don't know why...they're the same exact file types. So that's just weird...*shrug*

This is great, you're getting really, really good at this fur thing
I'd love to see the full resolution of this.
Those eyes are AWSOME as well!
Would you want to go sketching at the zoo sometime with me? My boyfriend and I go at least once a month, usually every week, I'm going to try to get some people from school to come down with us from time to time. I bet you'd rock my socks off!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SombraStudio In reply to S-Harkey [2009-08-18 23:28:42 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

It's not that great at full resolution. A 4px painterly brush looks good at this size...but at full size, it looks very...painterly. And slightly blurry.

And maybe. I'm guessing Lincoln Park Zoo (since it's free ). I just have to figure out how to get there by walking...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

S-Harkey In reply to SombraStudio [2009-08-19 00:14:19 +0000 UTC]

I figured it would be, when I do painty stuff its blurry up close, nice at a smaller resolution
And yeah, Lincoln Park, its pretty easy to get to from the city if you take the L. Do you live downtown?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SombraStudio In reply to S-Harkey [2009-08-19 02:38:06 +0000 UTC]

I might upload close up shots anyways when I'm done. X3

No I don't live downtown. Which line goes to Lincoln Park? (It's hilarious that I've lived in Chicago since forever and don't know anything about the CTA... )

S-Harkey In reply to SombraStudio [2009-08-19 04:35:16 +0000 UTC]

lol, don't worry about it, I live on the L
Either the red or the orange line. Then you hop on a bus if you're lazy... or walk if you feel guilty about sitting on your ass and drawing in a dank, dark room that smells like testosterone and feet all semester But I'm typically lazy

STUNNING.
I love this! I know it's Vulpix, but it looks like a real fox! Of course that's what its based off.

I love how you have a big blob of colors in the corner. XD
I see the blues and purples there, but I can't find where they are used here..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SombraStudio In reply to zekamori [2009-08-18 15:57:00 +0000 UTC]

Heh, thanks! X3

Yep...the giant blobs of colors I don't bother to delete before posting this 'cause this is only a WIP and it doesn't really matter 'cause they'll be gone when I'm finished.

I don't know if I'll use the purple...maybe on the nose. But that's where I'm using all the blues. Just haven't gotten to shading that yet though.

zekamori In reply to SombraStudio [2009-08-18 21:50:21 +0000 UTC]

Well it's COOL blob of colors. They are happy in their clique.

Ahhh, I can't see it as well I guess. xD

amaazzzinggg~

i'd just say to add more blending between the parts where the colors change? Like blend the white in to the brown/reds more to get a nicer transition. Also I'd suggest some more shading but you'd probably do that already later on :'D can't wait to see this done!
