Description At long last, this is finished. It's been about a month in the making. I'd hoped to finish it up in time for Ozma's birthday on August 21st. I'm not a huge Oz fan, but I am a huge vintage illustration fan, and John R Neill's original illustrations are gorgeous. Ozma is about as art nouveau as you can possibly get. I agonized a bit over the hair color--in the books she's described as blonde, but in the art, she's a brunette. The dark hair ended up being more compositionally effective. These are the sort of things that keep me up at night.

She originally was described as having a blondish color but later illustrations were very much darker-brunette as you have said. Nicely done!

This is incredible. I'm sure Ozma would love it!
I prefer Ozma with dark hair, so I think this is a good choice.
Those poppies really set it off!

Even if you're not a huge Oz fan- well, okay, maybe I'm not either- perhaps bigger than you, but not as big as the convention attending super fan type... Anyway, even if you're not that big a fan, I do like this piece; it's cute and evocative of the original illustrations while maintaining your own style. Β Plus I've always liked Ozma for some reason. Β

Actually, since I did this piece I read a bunch of the books and now I am a huge fan, lol.Β  Ozma is still my favorite!
