Nice contrast, and I really like the amount of the girl/guy on the right you've left in, shame to lose the other guys knuckles though, but thats the way it goes. What was the lighting like for this gig?

Yeah this was a bit of a grab shot, and I wasn't fast enough to compose it quite as I would've liked. Ah well.
The lighting was all top down, from a very high lighting rig, which tends to give badass shadows over eyes (like with the girl on the right). Wasn't really sure what to do about it. I guess if I had a flash I could use it to fill slightly, or bounce it off the floor?

Its still great composition.
I'm not a massive fan of flash for band gig stuff, I prefer getting the look of what the audience are seeing, and tbh I like this sort of stark style.
That said if it was so directly down that you weren't getting any decently lit face shots I guess that dosen't leave you many other options than flash. I'd try shooting the flash almost straight up with a diffuser, like this: [link]
