Im so glad you enjoyed it The softness of her eyebrows has always bothered me on this one, but not enough to go back and change it (behold! Am lazy )

I've just had the pleasure of strolling through your own gallery and I must say, you have a truly remarkable eye. I'd paint anything in there in a heart beat. There are very few people that have that effect on my painter's twitch *g* Truly awesome work.

There is lot of emotions in this painting. The posture seems relaxed but I get the sense of apprehension in her facial expressions. Beautiful work and a pleasure to watch, thank you for sharing!
Thank you also for adding "Casey - Var 3" to your favorites.

I really like this pic, great job!
Have you ever tried using real mediums?

Hey thanks

Indeed I have used the real thing. Same process, more mess and a lack of my beloved 'Undo' button Im not to be trusted with traditional media, I make a mess of everything around me. Digital is much much cleaner *g*

Hahaha, too true, too true...
I've tried the whole digital thing, buuuuuut I like getting my hands dirty!
You do a great job. Your pieces really do look like paint/pastel/charcoal/etc. What program do you use?

I am hopelessly addicted to Painter 9 and I'll be upgrading to 9.5 soon *cant wait* if you've not tried it out, I highly highly highly suggest it. My work looks the way it does because thats how it looks from using Painter. hop over to Corel.com and pick up a demo and see what you think of it.

Absolutely gorgeous painting. I love the atmospher and the lighting. Wish I could get a print of it.

I didn't realize Painter was this cool. I'm going to have to scurry off and get it.

So you used alot of "motion/smear" blending in her scarf ? and in the sleeves not so much in the arms, more a 0% saturation brush thing ?

looks awesome I love the way there is light bounce on the inside of her shirt .... love this image ..

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Stacey73 In reply to vampyr79 [2004-12-14 20:00:55 +0000 UTC]

Nope. No motion or smear, all done with the 0% saturation brush. I actually got a chance to play a bit with blending on this one because her face was really rough due to dorky me leaving my oil set to 2.2 in 'feature' rather than my normal range of 2.4 to 2.7.. So I had to go back in and refine the whole thing again.

Here's what I did..

1 ) I set the 'feature' of the brush to 3.4 or so ( Odd for me as I usually set it to around 4.7 to 5.7 for a good 'dry brush' feel to the blending)

2) actually left the brush opacity ( note, NOT saturation people.. big difference and you'll cuss my name if you crank THAT bad boy up whilst blending ) rather high as well at 22% or so, where I usually set it to around 7 to 10 for blending.. Takes forever at my settings, but I like a subtle blend rather than anything -too- smooth.

My bleed was set to 10 percent (usually set to 22% for blending)

This had the effect of 'roughing' the edges a bit while 'smoothing' the areas that were too rough already, evening out the image overall. Give it a try and let me know how it works for ya

*squish*

Stacey73 In reply to solarisdezine [2004-12-14 21:29:14 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh I wish I were a full time painter. But alas.. nope. I get bored too easily to do only one thing for too long Im also a 3d texture artist and learning to model as well * dont ask how its going *

solarisdezine In reply to Stacey73 [2004-12-15 10:29:58 +0000 UTC]

You just licked me twice!

2x - lol

...to be a model (no doubt) or to model objects ?
aaaah yeah, I know what you mean about getting bored easily, well with me it's a bit less the boredom part but more a physical problem as when I work too long behind my sweet computer I start getting pains in my arms and shoulders... I have a light form of RSI. I wish I didn't though, then I could go on and on for ages, cause my mind never gets enough

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Stacey73 In reply to solarisdezine [2004-12-15 12:36:34 +0000 UTC]

: you just licked me twice!"

Heh.. What can I say? Im friendly that way *grin*

Modeling objects. No way in hell you could get me in front of a camera. Im grumpy, old and you could make an awning out of my ass. I'll leave looking windswept and interesting to those better deserving and make myself happy by painting them. That way, if Im feeling bitter about being old, grumpy and having an awning for an ass, I can give them all horns and facial hair, or something equally entertaining

( WHAT!? I -MENTIONED- the grumpy part!.. yeesh. )

My computer keeps me sane. Back trouble prevents me from doing all that much by way of "oooh! look! a MOUNTAIN! Let's cilmb it!" kind of activity, so Im quite content to be where I am and tinker with my pixels.

*squints* speaking of which.. Shouldnt you be out taking more photos for me to paint?

Bloody hell girl, you just get better and better. This is superb. The light is excellent and so are her clothes. If you want one tiny bit of constructive crticism, it would be that her left eye has a slight squint, but thats me being picky. It reminds me of an artist (old, using the messy way) and I cant put my finger on it (the doctor said I shouldn't do that any more ). You know the one, bloke, 3 - 400 years ago, paint brushes and canvas and things,....ohhhh you must know 'im

Kind of reminds me of that "Girl with the Pearl Earring" painting. It has that warm-toned classical look to it. Beautiful!

One of these days I'm gonna have to learn how to paint digitally.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Stacey73 In reply to rho-cass [2004-12-14 07:21:58 +0000 UTC]

Yay! that was the painting I had in mind when I began, only I wanted yellows and browns rather than all the blue.. Though it didnt turn out all that spiffy, Im glad at least that part came across properly

And go grab a copy of Painter nine.. you can get the try before you buy version at corel.com.. You'll curse my name for a bit, then want to marry me *grin* I'll even install my version Nine to help you find your way around

Just think of it.. funky floofy head dresses.. wonky wiggy hair and dreads.. all in digital charcoal... or in bright, vivid COLOR.. and you wont have to buy paint! or pencils or stumps or anything Life is goooood with painter. So so goood

and just think...

you could paint giant cheeeeeeeesecake...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

rho-cass In reply to Stacey73 [2004-12-14 07:33:18 +0000 UTC]

Paaaainter. *drools* I've used it before but I don't know what version it was, and it was years ago anyway. It was a heavy program, but I still liked all the textures and the blending capabilities.

The only thing holding me back from going digital is my lack of a graphics tablet. Painting with a mouse is no fun at all.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Stacey73 In reply to rho-cass [2004-12-14 07:40:22 +0000 UTC]

oooooh yes yes yes.. tablet.. MUST. HAVE. TABLET.

I tried that whole 'with a mouse' thing before.. I know some people can pull it off, but me? gahh.. My computer had begun plotting my downfall just to make me STOP killing its monitor with pixel mud.

They have them fairly cheap now from what I understand. Mine is a monster. I thought I was getting a mid sized bugger, same as the one I killed ( poor thing got all used up ) but its like a mutant or something.. almost haf the size of my damned body and workin on it often kills my shoulder.. but still.. beats the HELL out of a mouse.

The all time winning combo? Photoshop CS and Painter. I've been too lazy to install nine, but I hear it is -fully- compatible with photoshop now.. that means anything you do in photoshop is transfered over to painter. You used to lose layer sets and adjustment layers and crap ( you do with 8, anyway)

Come Luke.. come to the dark side...
