Concept art for a short comic that I've been planning for a while. It's been a year and a half since I posted anything about it , and I'm nowhere near ready to dive into it yet, but I've grown a lot as an artist since I started working on it, at least. It means a lot to me and I don't want to start it until I'm sure I've got what it takes. But I'll work on concepts and promos in the meantime. :>This is Arashi, the main character. The first part of the story focuses on his traumatizing childhood, eventually leading up to the present: now 17, Arashi is frail and sickly. Prone to coughing up blood, he always carries around sanitizer and tissues to clean up after himself. Quiet and antisocial, he only has one person he can turn to--a friend that has been by his side since he was very little... his only comfort. A gruesome murder happens at their school, and his friend notices something strange a little ways away from the crime scene--a small, out of place splatter of blood.
There are two songs that fit Butterfly so perfectly it's kind of scary: Natalie Merchant's "My Skin" , and Akira Yamaoka & Mary Elizabeth Mcglynn's "Room of Angel" . If Butterfly was an anime they would be the OP and ED respectively. You can really get a lot out of the series from these two songs, they're really just as good of a teaser as anything I could draw.

I think I just figured out who was the murderer/murdered. (Although the first would make a bit more sense.)
On another note, this seems like it would turn out very interesting and I can already tell that this would be my cup of tea.
(I'll take guess and say the genre would be gore(?), mystery and suspense?)

The text 'goodbye, goodbye, goodbye" has such a captivating almost haunting feel to it, it looks like it would be one very great comic! It seems like the kind of storyline that could jerk some tears

I know. That's why I yanked it from the song, haha. I just fell in love with it, and it fits. It's going to be the last thing written in the comic, too.
Maybe, maybe not. It's more psychological and controversial than a tear-jerker, maybe, though Arashi is quite a sad character. Glad you're interested

Wow, very effective image. I really like how it's made up of just black, white and red. I think that really brings out the ideas mentioned in the artist's comment, but the limited colour palette doesn't reduce the detail in the picture. Love the layout of the different elements in the image too. The effect of the "Butterfly" text changing colour where it overlaps with the character works really well.

Thank you! Black and red is my favourite colour combo, and a lot of Butterfly relies on it, haha, so. I love working with simple lines and colours too, you have to concentrate more to bring the picture out.

You seriously work wonders with colours! Black and red is one of my favourite colour combinations, and the way you use non-black lineart is simply irresistible <333
