Description I've been wanting to do a snake pattern peyote stitch project for some time, and after I saw *Ellygator 's fantastic Burmese python bracelet, I knew it was time to do it! This one is my own pattern, modeled after my ball python Sava, in size 10 seed beads for a 7" bracelet. I'll be doing more of these in the future. I already have a request from *Kth-dragon for a rainbow boa!

Thanks. What made you stop dealing with seed beads?

I'd drop them or spill them or lose them in the carpet.

It must've taken a lot of time and patience to make that. It's so beautiful and I would so wear it. If I knew how and had the patience I'd try to make one but I'd prolly mess it up...

The golden sheen of those pattern beads you used is so pretty. Beads seem like a natural choice, because they're smooth and shiny, like snakeskin. You did a great job of reproducing the semi-random patterns on a snake. I'm admiring the high contrast between the black and gold, too.

As I was looking at this, a random thought came to me. Would this make a good pattern for a purse? I could be way off base here, seeing as how I know nothing about them.

Ooh, a purse would be really interesting. Heh, especially since I love the look of snakeskin, but would really rather let the snakies keep it. It would be work-intensive, but I think I could pull it off.

Why, thank you for the mention. And I'm thrilled my Burmese python was an inspiration!

Your pattern is beautiful, and I particularly love your choice of round seed beads, they look much more like snakescales than delicas do. Now you can take your baby with you everywhere you go, just snap on your bracelet and she crawls around your wrist!

Wow, that is very cool. Do you know of any good online tutorials? I'd like to learn how to make something like that.. Where do you get the beads/supplies also?

starglo21 In reply to Cerulean-Serpent [2005-11-01 20:52:32 +0000 UTC]

This is just simple peyote stitch, you can probably Google it up. The pattern is mine. Beads...I get beads from everywhere.

I'd like to make a green anaconda pattern one..

Hmm, I suppose it would be important for you to know that this particular bracelet took about 8 hours to make, so depending on what kind of pattern you come up with and how long you want it to be, it could take about the same or even significantly more time to make. Seed beading is really fun, but time-consuming!

You have to draw it on a blank peyote pattern sheet. I sell these things, so I don't release my patterns. Maybe some day in the future.

starglo21 In reply to Cerulean-Serpent [2005-11-01 22:36:51 +0000 UTC]

The toughest part is just finding a blank peyote pattern. I got mine from a book. What you'll end up with will look kind of like pixel art.

I don't do real snakeskin. Leather doesn't bother me, unless it comes from reptiles.

I wanted to start with a common pet, something most people would recognize. Hmm, a reticulated python sure would be pretty too...

larkin-art In reply to starglo21 [2005-11-02 02:30:11 +0000 UTC]

sure would, that'll be really involved...you could always do it in purple, yellow, orange and white as well, it would still be realistic...

I'm always drawn to those irridescent snakes, which is going to be hard to pull off in beadwork.

Kth-dragon [2005-10-31 20:50:23 +0000 UTC]

Oh no! You've skinned the fathead!

Anyway... It looks great in pictures, too. You could probably do several different species, and morphs as well, without even touching the ones that wouldn't be recognizable. And then there are the pretty venomous ones as well.... hmmm. I'd just want the rainbow, though. Especially if you could get hold of some beads with a colored core and iridescent outside to really mimic the pattern. Happy! ^..^

I really want to do a Gaboon viper. I think I've seen beads like what you're thinking of, they're probably a little more expensive than your run-of-the-mill seed beads.
