Description Usually, snow at Grand Canyon only sticks to the upper rock layers.
The temperature moderates as one descends canyon trails.
And if there is snow way below, it melts quickly as the day warms.

Early on this winter's day, I hiked down the snowy, icy South Kaibab Trail,
and after passing by the common stopping point at Cedar Ridge,
I continued on out towards Skeleton Point where the trail begins its steep Redwall descent.
I looked back towards the rim and I set up my camera for this chilly looking image.
Low-hanging clouds, fresh snow, and sheer, red canyon walls visible through the snow made this an alluring sight.

Camera, etc.:  Linhof Technika 3 view Camera with a 150mm (normal) Schneider lens on Fuji Velvia 4x5 sheet film.
