Thanks! The goblin was fun to paint. I should paint monsters and beasties more often.

This looks more like a 'historic' Rapunzel than a fantasy one, not only because you put her in somewhat more period specific clothes than what other illustrators *cough*andDisneyfilms*cough* have done, but also because actual princesses would have been a lot more politically savvy and intelligent than they're usually portrayed. I can totally see this girl ruling a kingdom and having the early 'fairy tale' events of her life being something of an anecdotal 'early life' myth.

I can imagine this Rapunzel taking on the Spanish Armada ala Queen Elizabeth and totally kicking it's ass.

Also, those are some lovely highlights on her weskit, it helps give that piece the texture of a hardened leather piece.

Hey, thanks for the lovely comment! I was trying to make her clothes not too period specific, and also since she was this goblin's prisoner for a long time, I didn't want them to be too fancy-- the kind of thing he would throw at her through the window. But yeah, I wanted to stay away from the cliche "slashed puffy sleeves" beloved by Disney.

That is SO epic. Rapunzel looks like she's far from being a helpless damsel-in-distress in this retelling. I would be afraid if I were that goblin!
You did a great job making this dark and forboding while still keeping the fairytale quality.

Thank you! Wow, pre-Raphaelite... that is quite a compliment. I love Waterhouse.

Yes, the goblin is pretty nasty. You know, this was the first time I've ever painted a creature-- it was a bit weird doing a non-human skin tone!

Haha, no-- that's the goblin that imprisons her. You'll have to read the story to find out what happens!

Wtf? I don't remember the goblin in Rapunzel. Been too long since I've heard that fairytale, haha.
