Photo is very beautiful, but it is not a proper low-key image. :/

This shot just stuns me. The duo-tone adds a touch of vitage glamour to an otherwise classic and natural shot. Your model is beautiful and you captured such a genuine softness and delicacy that keep this photo from looking posed and fake.

You obviously don't underestimate the power of a natural beauty and the dependance a composition has on atmosphere.

Stunning.

her eye looks so large and shiny, almost like a marble. stands out, but in a subtle way if that makes sense. her upraised arm seems like it has a nice soft white glow; her shoulder seems to have a dark almost bronzed look. her right hand gets a little lost in her left side. it's all about atmosphere here. her thoughts and our own. very nice.

I love the lighting on this! The brownish tint with the girl was very smart because it portrays the solemn mood that you are trying to display! Love the expression also! Awesome work Kevin! Keep it up!

NP... Keep up the awesome work! Is it really a brown tint, though? I was just giving an opinion...

yes, it's duotoned... it's sort of bronze brown.

Cool, love the tones.
So you shot it in RAW. Why?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

superkev In reply to funkyphotographer [2006-10-12 20:28:48 +0000 UTC]

RAW gives you more flexibility for color/contrast/saturation/sharpness processing after shooting. Plus, you don't lose any quality to compression like you do with JPG. RAW files are digital negatives, whereas JPG files are like digital prints. If you have a DSLR and you're not shooting your serious photos in RAW, you're missing out

funkyphotographer In reply to superkev [2006-10-12 21:19:49 +0000 UTC]

When i have shot raw i have found that the post processing takes ages as the files are bigger, and i haven't noticed an improvement in quality of image.

cheers, i'll try that.

superkev In reply to funkyphotographer [2006-10-12 22:17:01 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's definitely slower, but your results will vary depending on your level of experience and the software you're using to process the files. As for quality, you won't have much luck arguing that a compressed JPG file is better quality than unprocessed data from the sensor in 16 bits per pixel!
