My entry for ~DareenyY ’s BCS Opening Event

“This dress...” Louis watched Rebecca who was busy with getting Amadeo ready for the race. They had commissioned him a special bridle that could be worn under his mask. The horse was turned with his butt in Louis’ direction, so the stallion was only facing Rebecca, who was already wearing her mask.

“Yes, I know”, she replied. “It looks like it must be impossible to ride with it, especially races. But I’ve tried it out; it’s far more comfortable than it looks, and it isn’t as heavy as it seems.” She fixed Amadeo’s mask and controlled if it was placed well. “At least I didn’t take real lace – it’s an old curtain.” She smiled and led the horse out of his box.

“That isn’t what I meant”, Louis replied. “I was quite sure you wouldn’t wear anything that would feel uncomfortable. It’s just...I have the impression I’ve seen a similar dress before.”

Becky smiled again. “Vincent and I’ve exchanged some sewing pattern lately. If I’m not mistaken, he referenced it on a dress he had seen in an anime. He thought with some modification it’ll look quite like the costumes of the Venetian Carnival. Could you possibly help me?”

She was about to mount the horse, which wasn’t so easy in that dress. The young man helped her to get into the saddle. “Wish me luck! We’ll make fifty-fifty if I win”, she said as they moved to the starting line.

The start went well. Little Venice was amazing to look at, although she didn’t really have time to take a closer look at it. The gems on the cavern’s roof sparkled like a million stars over her, and the rain soon covered her face. She was happy she didn’t wear any glasses – they would have been covered with droplets by now.

Although she knew that Amadeo was familiar with the streets and liked rain, she decided to go safety first. The Venequia was still a horse, and the possibility to slide and fall on the wet pavements was not impossible. The most important was to get to the arrival safe and sound – also because her costume didn’t allow a helmet. “I must be mad to take part in a race without a helmet”, she thought.

She soon found the flag with her stable emblem on it and returned to the arrival. Though it wasn’t really important for her to get the winning cup, she had to admit that she was eager to know how well they had made.
