Description IR starscape.  The Milky Way, and stars in general emit a lot of IR light.

Here's a photoshop heavy visible light shot from the same place/time for comparison:

That really looks wonderful and makes me want to give it a try with my own IR camera

Thank you.  Shooting IR can help a little with getting past light pollution.

My pleasure.

And interesting point about the light pollution. I had not considered that.

I'm not sure about the aperture, I think it was one or two stops either side of f8. ISO was 400. Exposure was within a few seconds of five minutes.

Has IRIS been used to align dosens of frames? Or there is only one frame only making the picture incredible?!!!

A good question. I used the Polarie Star Tracker made by Vixen Optics. It is a neat little device that goes between your camera and your tripod and rotates against the spin of the earth so your camera stays pointed at the same spot in the sky. It allows me to shoot exposures of several minutes with no star trails. That lets me turn down the ISO a little for less noise and blacker black sky, as well as stop down a little for more sharpness. The downside is that it makes the foreground blurry since the camera is moving with the stars instead of the ground.

Thank you for the reply, that's very interesting. I also prefer using mechanical stuff wherever is possible rather than software solutions
