Description
Shot with a D700 and a 14-24mm f/2.8 wide open. ISO 200, 4 minute exposure, white balance set to "Flash", and colors lightly tweaked in photoshop.I was able to get a 4 minute exposure, and thus the noise free shot, without getting star trails by using a Polarie Vixen tracking tripod head www.amazon.com/Vixen-Optics-35β¦ , which counteracts the rotation of the earth.

Nice of you say. Β I'm pretty happy with this one, but in all honestly this is one of those cases where having the right gear in the right place was the largest factor.

Is it that clear and vibrant with the naked eye? If so I am insanely jealous. At night all I can see around here is the dome of light from the three surrounding cities. :c

Not quite. Β What you get with the naked is a silvery white sort of light that's just a little dimmer. Β But the other stars are more impressive than they come out as on film. Β But with a long exposure the galactic cloud starts to show color here and there which I enhanced a bit with photoshop.
