Description This scene was designed for the "Exotic Princess" contest @ @ Level 2.

This one I've been working on for over a week now. Mainly because I was stuck to my knees in the concept development phase.
I wanted a theme atop the clouds, and what ever I did it seemed rather empty and lacking.
Fortunately, just a few hours ago, the last few elements that I needed dawned on me. (basically the wings/pillars/blindfold/hair).

The clouds were particularly an overkill, even though working with clouds is a delight for me. I was forced to use the stamp tool a gazillion times, before the overall texture of the clouds started to make sense and was less "random".

However, the low resolution of the princess stock, was a real downer, it caused some parts to appear pixelated or blurry, against all efforts.

And finally, I've used the "Puppet Warp" tool for the first time (on the hair), and I've got to say, it kicks so much virtual ass!

P.S You've got to download it in full size for the indepth details!

I enjoy it - they would just be sat on my hard drive wouldn't they? Bit of a waste and as I use so much stock from DA it's a nice way to give back

Wow, i am blown away! The composition, the the heavenly feel, i love it all. I like how there's a lot of white, but the white seems natural, not stark white. I also kind of like that instead of the clichΓ© doves, you chose seagulls, which in my experience are normally not associated with "godlike" fantasy scenarios, but for some reason they work well here. Thank you so much!
And about the seagulls.. well. I didn't want to make it all look so "clichΓ©" as you mentioned. I mean, White wings, feathers, doves, it's always a package deal.
But even yet adding a white dove to an already white scene, will barely make a difference, however the yellow beaks, and black tips of wings really served the contrast scheme.

Appreciate your comment.

Me too.
When i draw i always draw tiny details, especially in the clothes. the details just make it complete, you know? XD

See I can't draw for crap, wish I had the talent.

Well, manipulation is the stuff i submit to dA, but i have tons of drawings lying around tha i'd love to submit, be it not for my cruel scanner. I'm no stunning artist either. X3
We can't be good at everything. You're probably good at something that i suck at. (seeing as the list of things i'm bad at is quite a large one XD)

What a great idea I love that you didn't go with a more obvious exotic scene, like a jungle.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SylversVolpe In reply to Emma-Fay [2011-08-10 14:41:14 +0000 UTC]

Well I like to avoid similarities on my themes, especially when the mains stock I am using, everyone else is too. Oh.. that and I hate to create jungle themes.. what's with all the green?!

Thank you.

TheFantaSim [2011-08-10 11:57:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, first I must say that at the resolution that you have this deviation at, she does not look pixelated. And you must remember that what we do at MT are challenges. That was part of the challenge for this contest, how you were going to handle the stock.

Next, this is well executed. I'm not crazy about the hair, it almost looks like a helmet, but it's not as bad as I've seen before from other members of the group.

Last, I can't believe how much your ability has improved from one manipulation to the next one. i was impressed with your last challenge entry even though there were flaws. But this one? This one is borderline level 3.

Good job!

SylversVolpe In reply to TheFantaSim [2011-08-10 14:37:59 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I felt I should put it up at 3, but I thought nah, I'll see what you think.

As for the hair, well. It's meant to look particularly that way. The white highlights all over makes her seem aged, even though her body is young. And well, frankly I'd change it after your observation, but I kinda love how it looks at the moment.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheFantaSim In reply to SylversVolpe [2011-08-12 14:03:41 +0000 UTC]

The "gray" parts of the hair is not what I'm speaking about, it's the edges. It's too straight and flat. Using hair brushes to make "strands" of hair that float from the edges and softening the edges more will help it not look so sharp and stiff.

SylversVolpe In reply to TheFantaSim [2011-08-12 16:14:37 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I see what you mean.
Well, I am no expert on hair really, but I'll try to work on that soon.
Though god help me, I got like a ton of layers and I never really bother to organize or name them.
