Description This scene was designed for the "In Africa" Challenge @ @ Level 2.

Ok, this is just one of those scenes that after staring at for SO long, every thing starts to look the same and you're unable to proceed further, because you can't tell if you're making things look better or plain worse anymore.

Another thing is, seems most people have gone for a more direct approach at the wilds of Africa.. you know, vast plains, hordes of animals and that pesky but common yellow-ish atmosphere with a big sense of space. And well Africa isn't just that, there are some truly heavenly scenes in parts of it... if you know where to look that is, so I tried to make my own.
Putting together the tree in the foreground was particularly problematic.

And finally, it's worthy to mention that the whole scene looked 150% better after shading and shadow casting. Who knew.

Thank you!
I've been making the most of my summer break you see, spending dozens of hours on photoshop, that otherwise I can't afford when I am back to college in a month from now.

You study something with design or is it just hobby?

Well I am in college atm, in the MIS field, managerial information system, it's a little bit of IT with a little bit business and tiny bit of accounting.
But any who, I want to work in the graphic/web design field when I graduate cuz that's my passion.
So I am taking it up seriously. I took a course in graphic design and currently taking a course in web design.
I only regret there are no schools that professionally teach graphic design in Egypt.

Okay, thanks for trying for something different. But what you're talking against is exactly what I expected for this challenge, i.e., the examples and the type of animals I had as required stock should have lead you to what to do in this challenge.

I, however, am questioning the fact that the area where the tiger, cheetah and wolves are almost at high as the giraffe's are. Do these animals live in a mountainous area? I'm not sure about that, but I thought they lived in the savannah, where it is "yellow-ish" with a "big sense of space".

SylversVolpe In reply to TheFantaSim [2011-08-26 19:07:46 +0000 UTC]

I was seeking a little differentiation, there's not much difference from what I do and others do when we all are lead to the same end with the difference of means.

As for the height, there's a reason I've allowed the giraffes heads and necks to peek from behind, this is of course not meant to be a mountain, rather it symbolizes a cliff no higher than a giraffe's lower body's length.

Evidently, Africa is not all yellow massive quantums of space, there's a lot of green, cliffs and heights, besides.. there's only so much realism I can achieve without doing a research in the Wikipedia.

This really beautiful and you're entirely right, there are some truly wonderous scenes to be seen in Africa, just like any continent, it cna't be described and defined by one type of landscape, its a very diverse place. Amazing job and thanks so much for choosing my Evening Waters stock

Thanks you so much for the kind words and for adding to your favorites, it certainly makes all the hours spent evidently worth it.
I myself live in North Africa, but never had the chance to get anywhere near the beautiful wilds, maybe some day.
Thanks again!

You're very welcome The image deserves many kind words, there are so many wonderful elements and your hours of work certainly show. I personally live in North America and I've far from seen all of the geographical wonders that are here, I hope to see them all some day, and other parts of the world too. I hope you get to see all of the world that you want to see
