Description A relatively quickly made piece for my usual phase. Nothing extraordinary.

Comments and critique always appreciated!

Tell me if you'd like a wallie and that can be arranged

Edit: Changed some minor things, including the lightning on the main planet.

Could look much better with some more grit (noisy stars done well, for instance). It has good depth already, though.

I really like the star field, but its blurry. You need to run a couple sharpen filters over it to fancy-up those stars!

I was gonna say maybe sharpen once or twice...
Its such a wonderful piece

Well, the blurry stars are behind a lot of the gases in the nebula, and wouldn't appear sharp

Veyr natural-looking colour scheme. This is probably what most nebulae would look like before different gases are converted into different colours via computer. The large planet looks nice too

lol I was just about to say this would make a great wallpaper if it were in landscape before reading that last line

Excellent work. This is gorgeous.

I don't think the shading on the largest planet looks.. "right"?

But otherwise I absolutely love this, the cluster in the background looks like a fiery explosion, and I think that black 'arm' reaching out to the source of light is an excellent touch.

tadp0l3 In reply to WoahAlex [2010-09-29 12:35:21 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man,

Whats wrong with the shading, care to be more specific??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WoahAlex In reply to tadp0l3 [2010-09-29 13:11:27 +0000 UTC]

I feel the shaded side should be darker since there is no other direct light source in the picture, if you ever look at a picture of the earth/moon showing the sun shining on only one side then you'd see the other side is completely black. But I'd just darken more it on your planet so people can appreciate the great texture. ;D

Keep up the awesome stuff though, I get excited just seeing I've got a deviation update from you ;D

tadp0l3 In reply to WoahAlex [2010-09-30 21:42:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, the shadowy side would be lit from a light source outside of the picture - a light source from behind the spectator. We know nothing of whats outside of the rims of the piece. There could well be a distant sun, a close star or a very reflective moon illuminating the dark side of the planet that's beyond what you see in the picture. The planet obviously exist somewhere in space that's much more illuminated and colourful than the space surrounding our own planet.

That said - there's apparently a flaw in the composition of the piece - seeing as you feel it to be a bit unnatural. And I think in the end that it's due to the fact that I want to show off the texture of my planet

That last sentence of yours made my day btw!

WoahAlex In reply to tadp0l3 [2010-10-01 08:48:28 +0000 UTC]

All very true, and I don't blame you for wanting to show off that excellent texture you work hard on. I mean all artists have their own little mannerisms in their work, yours could be that the lighting suggests that there is more to this particular part of the universe you have depicted, like you said. Even though it's actually just you wanting to show off your texture ;D

Moreover, your art fascinates me regardless of your disregard of conventional physics aha!
