Found a quiet evening and got a bit inspired. Some gas giant aurora, some flying creatures, some flares. Good fun!Submitting this to the contest "Unique Planets" (erikshoemaker.deviantart.com/jβ¦ ) hosted by Space-Revived Β
Comments and/or critique welcomed. I do work so rarely these days I can't tell good from bad, so open to revising this based on any input.

Thanks. Feeling rusty, but that's been my default setting for a couple of years now, so getting used to that
And yes, space category would be whats fitting. I had in mind to have strange plants and formations peeking out of the clouds on the nearby planet/moon, making the piece fit for both categories, heh - but I honestly don't have the time to be that elaborate. Unfortunately.

I can imagine that gas giant, with its pattern and aurora's like that that it must be huge, even bigger than Jupiter

Yes, it was fun working with tight bands to attempt some illusion of size. I've always found gas giants to be tricky to create. I have a hard time making them realistic looking. Just going way overboard on texture size and number of bands was an attempt to give it some flare. Think it came out ok, but I'll probably always feel more in my comfort zone working with terrestrial planets

I suppose Saturn has a "banded" pattern all the way up to the poles, granted - they're very hard to see in normal light (but show up nicely in infrared) Jupiter on the other hand gets much more subdued in its pattern nearer the poles, with storms taking on more random shapes rather than organized stripes, and with lower contrast too, almost appearing more like a fog is covering them. Take it from the guy who has spent a lot of time lookng at pictures and reading stuff about the ones in our own system
